General 4x4 Twin air mpg

I've now done 5000 miles and getting much better average mpg....I don't think my driving style has changed but I'm now getting ave 45mpg, up from 39...... Great!
I just love this car, its brilliant!

I'm glad you're liking it.

I don't drive it much at the moment as it is my wife's car.

We had dreadful weather early one morning and she does find it reassuring to have 4WD when the roads suddenly flood.

The only downer is a chip on the windscreen so that will be replaced next week.

I think it's doing around 40 mpg but we're not keeping an eye on it.

I've done almost 11000 miles since July. Been getting about 36 mpg round Devon, which is just about bearable. Currently on second trip to Umbria - I'll do a write up when we return to Pudding Island - mpg for the whole trip so far is over 41, reflecting the different motoring profile while we're here.

As you say, it's a great little car. Copes more than adequately with cross-Europe driving. There was no snow in Devon this last winter, preventing me from driving round looking smug, but we do exploit the car's off-road, and gravel track, abilities here in Italy.

I know. I'm amazed, I don't hang about either...... I think I've finally mastered using the torque peak and gears correctly LoL

Over the first 650 miles, I've returned 39 mpg in my TA 4x4, but a lot of that is stop starting, 3 mile commute through London.

Same trip ( Mrs works at the same place, different shifts) in the 1.2 Lounge and it's 32.4 mpg for that one.

I did have the TA at 43, but somehow we've swap over cars this last week and I don't think she has the hang of changing up and flogging it in higher gears yet.
I think I might leave in in Eco for her!

It might just be possible to squeeze that out of a 4x4 with a very light right foot. Out of interest, what revs is the Lounge doing at 70mph?

The 4x4's doing about 3100 in sixth so very similar and, given the extra weight and some power to drive the prop shaft and so on, the 4x4 is doing quite well.

The issue we have round here are tracks and narrow lanes- they're a killer when it comes to getting decent fuel consumption.

Tube strike today, I went 600 metres in 3 quarters of an hour, feckin' ruined the 1.2 Lounges' 32.4!

Yes I must admit, my ave 45mpg figure is mostly motorway and A-road driving. Now I'm back home with all the tracks and lanes I'll monitor it over the next few days.....

Well, I just drove from Leeds to Malton earlier having topped up with premium unleaded and got a decent 48.8MPG compared to my usual ~42MPG.

Having recently passed the 5000 mile mark, I've had a few runs on standard unleaded for example from Malton to York where I've clocked 50+MPG!! :devil:
