I have old posts on this subject, well it's still noisy. Now the garage at MOT have said it's a section of flexible exhaust pipe that's setting up some kind of resonance. A bit skeptical but it very well maybe and I'm looking for a solution.

They say their usual suspects can't supply the part, and they could make one up, they're trying to avoid going to Fiat for an original part on a cost basis.

Two questions.
1. Does this ring any bells as the possible cause of internal noise.
2. Does anyone have a source to suggest for this part.

Thanks all.
Rupert

Hi there; 63 plate TA 4x4, just passed its MOT but advised "minor exhaust gas leak" the tester said it was the flexible. Previously folk on this forum have advised that 4x4 (TA) exhausts were "typically" only available from FIAT at OEM rates(!).I have been digging around and found that eBay seems to have a couple of sources for the whole system at circa £300. I have also found a number of replacement flexible joints (weldable and clamped fitting). Since the rear box and down pipes are sound I am thinking of trying to cut the failed flexi joint out and fitting a clamped one (safe in the knowledge I can get a replacement). I have the new joint now, just need the appetite to get under the car... New joint was less than £20 and came with clamps and joint paste.

I do have some kind of exhaust rattle/knock so I will see if this is the solution. My next area of scrutiny would be the dog-bone engine mount (which may have accelerated the flexibles demise...)

Thanks very much for that, I'll do an ebay search and forward your comment to the garage. I regret I'm no kind of vehicle expert but quite a good listener, (to noises).

My 2017 TA 4x4 had a bit of a burble from the exhaust most of this summer, I was hoping it would last out until September when it was due mot and service. I was expecting a big bill for a new exhaust.

I took it, for the second year running, to NSB Winchester and was told it was probably the flexy pipe.
The car was ready after a day in the workshop, the old flexy was cut out and a replacement was welded in.
I was very happy with £420 for small service, mot and exhaust repair.
From the invoice the flexy pipe was KLAFRP7B (£48) and new centre exhaust brackets were also fabricated as they were on their way out.

Outstanding service from NSB and the car is good as new again.
