It is the auto/ELD/hill descent control.

I wonder if the new Jeep Renegade is going to hit the Panda Cross appeal and sales. It is a larger vehicle, appears to have the same 4x4 system, and based on the 500L.

I think you've answered your own question.

The Jeep will most likely be in a higher price bracket and be a larger vehicle.

Jeep has a very loyal following in the States and I wonder how the Fiat based newbie will go down.

I was surprised by how much larger the 500L was than the Panda and I think you're right the cost will be significantly more. The 500L Trekking already comes with a hefty price tag compared to the Panda 4x4 and doesn't have the off-road credentials of the Panda.

Reading some of the jeep based forums I think the new Fiat/Jeep is going to face a very sceptical audience. It's clear that many have no idea just how remarkable the Panda 4x4's in all their guises from Mk 1 through Mk 4. I wonder if a Panda 4x4 could tackle the Rubicon Trail. Now that would be an adventure!

I found this pic of a Panda 4x4 Cross but don't know how legit it is...

The picture in last weeks Autocar looked much better than this.

I reckon the new Cross will be very popular (y)

Hopefully someone has already posted up a picture!

Don't you just love it? :)
Want one...

Do you think it would float?

It looks like it might!

Maybe add a propellor. :p

What's the red car behind it?

Seems like another nice model to add to the Panda range!(y)

I think Fiat do seem to have hit the jackpot a bit with the 4x4 versions. You can tell from this section and some of the recent sales figures that they're really popular.

Also, it's fair to say with their prices that Fiat are presumably making good money out of these premium cars too.

All seems to be falling into place quite nicely...it wouldn't surprise me if the success with these premium models is helping to keep the prices low for the other end of the range?

I'd say so, what with being able to get the 1.2 pop for less than 1/2 of the twinair 4x4. There must be a fair profit in it.

I'd still say that the Panda 4x4 is good value.

What are the rivals for the money?

That Suzuki SX4? The Jimney?

No thanks.

The only other one is the Dacia Duster which is yet to prove itself over here.

As I've mentioned before the combination of ability and compactness of size, together with real character make it ideal for us, and it seems for many others beside.

I don't begrudge Fiat the money they are charging.

You've reminded me of a car magazine article I saw recently in France. They tested safety of SUV cars. In the segment the panda was in, it came last, but on the next page,in the segment with the duster, that came last with worse scores than the Fiat!

Any one speak French? I took a photo of the page, I'll put it up if anyone wants?
