Hi guys need to pick your brains on something, just bought an oil filter for my little valdisere the brand being PURFLUX,now i normaly i buy the fiat oem filter and noticed how much smaller this PURFLUX one was in size?
How important is the size and capacity of a filter,i know its filtration properties are the important fact, but im just a bit concerned.
Thanks
Damien.:)

Wont notice much difference, but you get what you pay for Damien.

Yeah your right Alan!!thing is this little Purflux cost the same as the fiat filter!!ah sod it im off to fiat tom to get a filter!:) aint worth taking risks!!!that will teach me:yuck: !!hows the Sis's exhaust hanger Alan?
Damien.

Can't get it sorted before Gainsbourough so unfortunately a couple of cable ties for now :( Not that you can see them.

Damien I'm doing an Oil change etc tomorrow and won't be able to get a fiat one but I trust the parts from Motoquip so am happy with putting it on. I wouldn't throw it away just use it but keep an eye on the condition of the oil (colour feel etc).

Well i mean crazy as it seems i change my oil every every 5oookm,so this filter should do its job for that mileage, love my engines to be clean!!just wasnt happy about the size of the purflux filter in comparison!!Plus my little 4X4 is gona be doing some Kms as im driving to uk soon!!just want to make sure!!
Hey Alan do you use any anti wear additives with your new oil?
Damien.

Just make sure the oil seals are the same size.

No I don't use additives many affect & burn the valve seats etc so regular changing is probably better. I only changed the oil late Aug. And although it appears I have done lots of miles it's not really been that much in the scheme of things maybe 4000. I always use a semi synthetic 10-40 as you get the best of both worlds

Yeah thanks Alan,i checked the oil seals were the same, and they were. When you say the best of both worlds what do you mean by that?i use 5W40 fully synthetic mobil 1!!its funny but i find the biggest change in the engines character as far as servicing is concerned, is when i change my spark plugs,im using NGK's at the moment had them on for about 6k,when i bought the car you should have seen the state of the plugs, gee whizz!! they were worn down to a stump, what a heart stopping experience it was to get them out, without ruining the threads!!woudnt have suprised me if they were the originals!!have to say the french really do skimp on car maintenance:shakehead !!will have a look at them tommorow again.

Damien.

I recently saw a makeup on different oils one problem of which is the fully synthetic oil can't absorb certain deposits that the mineral oil can which is got rid of on oil changes that the fully synthetic cant? whether that is crap or not I don't know, But fiat have always recommended semi synthetic 10-40 so stick with that.

Well i suppose fiat have a good reason for stating that fact!!!they built the bloody engine!!carnt argue with that!!ha ha!!
Just that i have read that fully synthetic absorbs more water and has better anti wearing properties than min/syn?and keeps your engine cleaner, and is more effective for longer,do i need to mention flash point??? :D :D
Damien.

To be honest Damien it's not a subject I have ever researched greatly and more than not use by recomendation or personal findings. I have always found when opening the rocker cover that the engine looks like new....that's good enough for me ;)

Fair enough Alan;each one to their own,but with similar outcome.ha ha!!:D Just hope our little panda's will go strong for years and years to come.:)
Damien.

Just got all my stuff this morning, Oil, Fuel & Air Filters, plugs, rockercover gasket and the owner of the shop recommended a 0-40 fully synthetic so will give it a go just for you

Also fitting a new electronic ign unit I got from Allen & new rear lights (ebay specials) so will need to set it up.

I'll also bring the digital strobe to Gainsborough so everyone can check their timing.
