Hello! And help, please! Just joined and am a little overwhelmed with this awesome but massive forum, so I really don't know where to post/ask this. My Fiat 500l Trekking (automatic) (which I love - yes love...except for the transmission sometimes ) lost its gears, AGAIN, two weeks ago. Same thing happened in Jan. 2019: "Gear not available" - completely undriveable. At that time, mechanic found hydraulic pump stuck off, replaced the SDU under warranty, all good. About a month ago, "service transmission" light came one - my usual general service mechanic said it would need a new hydraulic pressure pump etc. for about $5,000, within the year if not sooner. So I left it and it was running okay. Two weeks ago, I start the car and get "Gear not available" - odo is approx. 99,500 kms. Mechanic (authorised Fiat one that did the work in 2019) said yesterday that the harness connector is corroded. He's having a terrible timing sourcing the part, couldn't even get the model number at first because apparently its only service (supplied?) with the complete harness - looking at $5,270 for the job, which even he says that's unrealistic, so he's trying now to source the part used so that he can do a splice and solder and get the car on the road for much less. Am I making sense? Anybody know where I can get the part? Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome :)

The part may well be a US only component..as I believe it is a different gearbox

However IF the mechanic found the part number.. then you have a chance.. ;)

IDEA..

If the issue is just a corroded connector.. try the TE website..

They make a vast array of auto electric equipment ;)

Thanks and thanks varesecrazy/Charlie! I will look into that. I would think it's not just a US component...unless you're saying the component itself would only be available in the US? It's mind-boggling (or not?!) that Fiat/Chrysler/Mopar doesn't have it...or just won't make it available.

The us version of cars often in use different engine's and gearboxes the the EU versions hence why it would be a US only part

Thanks chris3234! I guess it's a North American thing; my Serbian-built Fiat otherwise runs great in Canada. So whilst I search and wait, I'll continue to catch up on The IT Crowd... :)

If what you are looking at is just a corroded connector, before changing it - consider a good deep cleaning of it... (I'm not saying this is a good idea, but I poured some acid into a connector of mine, and that removed the corrosion, and it got back to life)

For a completely different car than a fiat (the one mentioned above, I managed to break a connector irreperable) I just ordered a new connector from a scrap-yard... some solder is cheap and quickly done comparably...
