500L car overheat indicator

I tested something. I turned the heat off and revved the engine and the heat gauge went down to mid level. Fan is still on now I’m just waiting to see what happens

Car at idle gauge went up again one bar above mid lin. I rev engine bar goes to mid line again

after i revved it went back to mid level. I decided to put the heat on again. Just a note, the day before I left to go on my trip I had the air filters replaced and had an oil change. Could it be something with the air filter? Just asking. With the heat on full blast it is up again one bar over halfway. Once again I rev the engine and it goes to halfway

Is radiator fan always running at high speed

Yes. I just went for a quick drive around the block and the gauge went down to halfway. But when I park it the gauge goes back up and the fan is always on high.

I think you will have to visit a mechanic.
The radiator fan should really run until coolant temperature drops (you wouldn't necessarily this on gauge) then fan should stop until coolant temp goes up then fan starts again and cycle repeats.
Having heater in car on hot and interior fan on full should help coolant temperature drop , which would help turn fan off.

All of the above will a.c. turned off so a.c. doesn't turn radiator fan on

yesterday when car was still at mid level, i would set the AC to a low level and the fan would go on. once i shut the AC the fan would shut off. Do you have any idea what the issue can be so when i go to the service station i dont get the run around. the car overheated the engine was on a good hour. thanks for your time and help

Provided you left the a.c. off when listening for fan to cycle on then off.

It could be a number of things ,
Possibly thermostat not opening fully,
Possibly blocked radiator external fins,
Possibly partially blocked radiator internally(less likely),
Possibly even a temperature sensor reporting coolant hotter than it actually is(very unlikely)

I am surprised that with the heater on fully hot and heater fan on full and the a.c. off the radiator fan still didn't stop. Though I should have asked you to hold revs at 1000 during that test.

It is time to find a nice mechanic that you trust is experienced.
Once lock down is relaxed you are welcome to bring it to me in the UK ((-:

Poo and yes as Chris posted could be poor flow from pump ( but unlikely and if you can see coolant returning to header tank with revs at 1000 or hot air from heater probably not)

If temperature correct with vehicle in motion , air moving over whole area of radiator , I don't think it's serious and points towards radiator fan efficiently moving air through radiator.

So the replacement of the air filter for the engine a few days ago (maybe done incorrectly) shouldn't cause any issues to engine heating up? Air flow? just asking because that's the last thing i did to the car (oil change and air filter replacements) not an expert and this me be a silly question

you explained, "if you can see coolant returning to header tank with revs at 1000 or hot air from heater probably not".
What do you mean by "if you can see coolant returning to header tank"?
I want to try that today
Thanks

Very doubtful unless you dropped box for air filter and box cut off air flow through radiator(-:

Especially as your car drove fine for trip to collect your son.

post picture of coolant header tank and I will see if I can explain or indeed if it is possible to see on your particular car.

Is this what ur talking about?

When we turn on the ac the outside wheel turns and when I shut it off it stops. The the belt keeps going regardless

Yes that's it .

On that style of expansion tank it does not have a degassing tube so you can't do the check I was thinking of.

But with that style of cooling system if it has a very slight leak air can get in and get trapped. So coolant may look perfectly fine level in tank but be low in rest of system.

Air in cooling system could easily cause the symptoms you have.
