Hi folks ... am new to the forum and recently bought a 2007
Punto Active 1.2 ... 5 door
Runs great but I have a confusing issue with the Yellow general warning light. Every morning, or if parked for a few hours, it illuminates when the ignition is switched on and does not go out if I drive off. But if I switch the ignition off and back on for second time ... it goes off and never comes on again until after the car has been parked up again. It does not matter if I just switch the ignition on and off twice, or if it start the car up twice, the yellow triangle illuminates after being parked and needs this sequence to go out. I have checked carefully and when the triangle is illuminated all my external lights work and I cannot see any other warning lights or messages on the dashboard.... it’s a real puzzle to me what us going on ... any ideas ? Many thanks for any suggestions

I have the same model punto and problems with this light warning happened to me. Used to randomly come on and off for no reason.

When I was buying parts off a punto specialist, I decided to mention this to him and he explained it was common for the wiring connected to the license plate lights to go out.

He walked around to the back of my car and firmly hit above the license plate with a closed fist. The light went off..and it's stayed off for about 7 months.

Probably best to check both your license plate bulbs are working first as this will trigger the dash light. I forgot they were even there as you cant see them in daytime and they are very weak at night time.

Thanks Matt for the suggestion but when I carefully checked all the external lights and indicators and I took a good look at the rear number plate and both lights were lit ... I also gave the car a bash against every light bulb area ... the neighbors must have thought I was going daft .. I still need to do my song and dance double start up routine to stop the triangle light staying on

Sorry to ask the obvious but you did carefully check all the lights including the brake lights, fog lights, low and high beam headlights and sidelights?

Also been reading the manual and apparently the amber triangle can be triggered by the oil pressure sensor too so two more questions:
1. Assuming you have checked the oil level?
2. Check the oil pressure sensor and wiring to the sensor - they're known to leak which gets into the wiring. Also the wiring can chaff which can appear as occasional (but usually more random than you are suggesting) warning light coming on

Oil level ok all lights ok
It’s a mystery ... have to switch ignition on the off then on again every time I set off to ensure the yellow triangle does not illuminate

I had this light on and despite the car having had this light on previously recorded as no fault found, having owned the car a few weeks I plugged in the oil pressure sensor and it’s never been on since other than bulbs going out, I did have a situation once where the light came on but no message, all lights worked so after a bit of searching I measured the resistance of all my bulbs and one was noticeably greater, swiped it out and fine since, my personal experience is although annoying it has always been on as there is something out of spec. The oil pressure sensor clipped in fine when I plugged it in so I can only guess the dealership never bothered to remove the undertray, good luck
