sounds like a clutch slipping or DMF failure.
Agreed, needs a new clutch as a minimum by the sounds of it.

as with a @£500 job,
it will be easy to save £100 on better labour rates,

depending where you are, da motors in wickford charged me 250 a couple of years back for labour, i supplied the clutch and they welded up my dmf (effectively becoming a smf). The only thing is the engine has more of a diesel clatter, but is a lot quicker of the mark as the dmf isnt absorbing power.

dunno, i just asked for a total price and they quoted, the car was gone over the weekend whilst they done the job.
Get a quote at a few garages in your area for total amount, you should be able to get it a lot cheaper that way.

tbh if they are replacing clutch and dmf and that is inc labour then that is a cracking deal, the dmf are around 250 on thier own, clutch kit about 150, so there charging approx 100 in labour going by those approx prices.
I would bite thier hands off and get it written quote.

I remeber our old marea JTD was a"nightmare" according to the guy who did it on hos drive..,
as a note to the OP,
the flywheel was probably o.k. until you scratched/ scored it with a worn-out clutch.. lesson learned..!,

Mine went at 80k, the clutch was fine the dmf actually failed, the clutch probo had another 10k left on it
