Panda 2012+ My new Fiat Panda Easy TwinAir

Introduction

Hi guys and gals,

Having recently graduated in 2012 and started a new graduate job in Peterborough quite far away from home (Swansea), I needed/wanted a new car that wouldn't cost me lots in fuel, repairs and would be practical/comfy enough for travelling home on weekends and for holidays.

I always really liked the Panda, especially the latest one, I found a pre-registered Panda at my local dealer that had a total of 10 miles on the clock. As my current car is in a bit of a state and I could see potential issues on the horizon, I signed the dotted line and picked the car up on the 24th of February.

It's not my ideal colour, or specification in terms of equipment, but I adore the car nevertheless.

So here it is (and the only one of this colour on the board from what I can see!):

I would like to modify the following:

Install the official Fiat USB input device
Some how add the door side mouldings
Colour code the wing mirrors

That looks really nice (the quality photos help...) -- and has made me change my mind about that colour...! Nearly ended up with a TA Panda Dualogic... -- it's a great engine; and I'm sure you'll have lots of fun in it! :)

Just don't expect to get FIAT's official MPG figures from it... -- although the economy will improve, the more miles you put on it (up to four or five thousand, I believe...). :rolleyes:
 
You will help the economy, and the acceleration/peformance if you drop the oil and do a thousand miles on ordinary mineral oil. You bed in the piston rings (honing the bores) and "seal" the engine. When its on boost, the compression ratio goes up...if the engine is sealing nice and tight there is less blowing past the pistons.
The economy improved greatly on the Cape Town to London record-breaker after we did this...today its on 14,000 miles, runs really well - and can do 115mph top speed, measured on GPS, if asked to!

I've now covered 1100 miles in it and enjoying it thoroughly. Sadly fuel economy went out the window when having to drive back from Swansea to Peterborough at some...interesting speeds.

Having read about the TwinAir on the internet - it seems like you need to drive it like a diesel to get the economy. Where as I thought the engine was struggling and would shift down - I find out that it's supposed to be like that! Doh!

Phillip - would getting the dealer to do that invalidate the warranty do you know?

I bought one with 22,000 on the clock and although I love the car I am only getting 38/39 to the gallon on short journeys
I had a Ford fusion diesel on a 53 plate and doing the same journeys etc I was getting 45 plus mpg
Can I ask your mpg

Sorry for the delayed reply Alsation1 - I was off for a few weeks and didn't see this had been updated.

Yes it is possible to drive the TwinAir without ragging it - which is generally what I do on the motorway as it's a comfortable mile cruncher.

However, give me a country road and yes - the temptation to rag it is too high - but it's all part of the fun!! You have to remember it's an engine with two personalities. Economy or fun - you choose :)
