Panda (Classic) John Dragon Man's 4x4 Sisley

Introduction

Hello!

Well, I have been waiting a long time to do this!

Introducing (Drum roll please!).....

Edit: about half way through the time it took me to get the car on the road it found the name Talon. So everyone Meet:
Talon. My Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley:

Great Looking car.. As i am sure you all agree!

It has its Good points:

No Horrid noises in any gear and the 4x4 system works and sounds brilliant! Its a Sisley! And it came with some nice extras such as the light grill covers.

and also nice low mileage.

And it has its bad points... Lots of bad points:

Mid body rust, This is the worst on the drivers side (in the UK) front wing:

The Doors are Rusty.. Ok, i did expect this as it seems to be a common thing on most Fiats over 10-15 years old:

And the other Door, Not as bad.. I may be able to save this side!

"Phantom Electronics" the electronics do what they want to do, when they want to do it. No Switches necessary!

Also the Fuse box now lives here :( That means that a flap has been cut in the pocket :(
attachment.php

The Exhaust is very broken, in multiple parts. even the down pipe!
attachment.php

Lastly and by far the worst, Under body rust. Now its not as bad as it could be. The rear sills on both sides have a small 1 - 2 inch hole in them. No biggy.
I have still yet to remove all the plastic wheel arch liners and have a proper look.
Here's a picture from the front drivers side wheel arch, its only a skin so a easy repair:

A bit of work needs doing to the brakes, pads i think. The fluid needs changing and the drivers side front brake pipe is corroded so i will replace that.

Also the engine needs a good cleaning up, a full on service replacing the water pump, cam belt, tensioner pulley, distributor cap and rotor arm, filters, oil, radiator, coolant and starter motor.

I also need a few things like a locking filler cap, the little clips that hold the air box together, a new boot gas strut and a non damaged back bumper.

Its the car I have always wanted right from when I was a young lad. So you can imagine how I was when I won it on eBay for a grand total of £547. Getting it from Wales To my home town of Derby Cost me £135.

With some love, care and late nights I reckon I can turn it into a cracking motor!

Oh and stay tuned as I will be keeping a Video Log of what I will be doing to the car on Youtube!

This is the video i took just as the car transporter left from delivering it:

I am so very proud to be the owner of a Fiat Panda 4x4 Sisley!

:D:D:D

Edit: this is how Talon looks now:

:eek::cool::cool::cool::yum:

Since then Talon has gained more lights, and now has some blue rust free Seat Marbella doors. I had also converted him to Fuel injection, however the parts i used were old and worn so now it is back on Carburettor.

This thread has its ups and downs but through the years Talon and myself have pulled through.

When you are done reading this thread, be sure to check out the little red scrap yard rescued Seat Marbella thread and also Project Fallout!

Peace all and enjoy the thread, videos and pictures!
hmm thats the thing though, they are not flat or i would of done that.
the wide 4x4 mudflaps for the front are made so they incorporate the sills and the whole depth of the inner wheel arch.

its gotta be propa or it aint woth having them on at all*

* in derby slang

Yeah I know I have 2 lying around not doing anything... ;) though it crosses my mind, rather than refit them (I pulled them off in an offroading incident, although I never thought they looked very good). I should sell them for £80 and just make some out of my rubber sheet! :p

swap you a good panda 4x4 front diff for the front drivers side mud flap :p

Ah of course... How the tables have turned!!!

I'm glad you reminded me about the diff, it had completely slipped my mind, it's fairly low priority on my ever expanding list of things to do (that is until my gearbox breaks). I will need to look out the mudflaps, A) to see if I can find them, B) to see what state they are actually in, and C) to see if I can bring myself to part with such a premium item!

well going to try and get Talon in for MOT. £30 for my grandad to insure the car, £200+ for me to insure it for the same amount of time. ive got about £80 saved up to cover insurance and MOT costs..
so phone them up, get him booked in and i guess ill go from there.
i'm not expecting him to pass (somethings got to be wrong somewhere) but ill have a nice list of things that will need attention.

ill get back to you all on what happens next.

ha ha ha i should really sort out a courier for it. its just me being tight and not wanting to pay out for postage lmao. by the time i get it, you will be able to send it to me in an envelope >_<

if you want to sort it out you are welcome to man. hell if you can find out how much one would cost i'd send you the cash.

i really would like it bolted to the car, but i think for the time being ill let it live in the shed fix the rust.. then when i have some cash, ill get it plastic dipped. still got the rims to sort out.
for now though i just want to focus on getting it on the road, no matter what it looks like.

edit: heh i plan to attend as many meets as i can!

well. ya know how i said that i would get the car booked in for mot... yeah.. see the thing is.. i kinda lost track of time... heh

really. i got out the house at around 9 in the morning to do all "pre-flight checks" before the "soon to be" booked MOT.. heh next thing i know my dad is home from work... 5PM. dafqu? so i missed dinner.. and never had anything to drink hell never set foot back in the house until my dad got back home.. i was just that lost in the total pandery epicness my car seems to bestow upon me.

so i tightened up that annoying gearbox / rear engine mount. had to heat up one of my 17mm spanners to get the kink out of it so it would fit over the bolt in the very small hole you have to get the spanner into. well one less thing for the mot guy to spot!

as most of you know i did some work on a neighbors van that involved me taking the bottom of the engine off so i had loads of nasty old engine oil. so i pumped a load of that into all the places where i thought water could sit around the chassis/sub frame. (yes the pit was full of it but i got it all cleaned up ) so plus one to future rust proofing.

i checked for any sign of oil leaks. happy to say i did not find any, i also checked took the fill plug out on the gearbox and checked the level:

attachment.php

(Yes they're some of the old bolts from my old gearbox bolting my sump guard and towing eye on)

from the top:
attachment.php

still full

so besides the oil dripping from out of various drain holes in the front chassis/sub frame i have no oil leaks what so ever

and to top it off.. heres the next video log:

Tomorrow! i will ring up my grandad. ask him when he can get insurance on the panda then ring up the MOT place and see when they can get me in!

ok so it failed on the brake hoses on the front and steering gators not having a zip tie on them (had some with me though)

attachment.php

wire is not live... yet.. its not even connected :confused:

yeah i lost one bolt :/ ooops.

ill take some pics of the prop.. the rubber mounts have come away from the metal at the center. ill figure out a way to fix it.. somehow....now its only an advisory, but i need it fixed.

underside undersealed?? so its now wrong to rust proof?

now to google to find the closest car parts place!

wonder if the fiat cinquecento brake hoses will fit...
