Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Well gave the paintwork a t-cut and the orange peel came out no problem. It's a fairly close colour match although you can see it if you know it is there...

...more importantly it is now shiney :slayer:

Still got the bonnet to do though but I am not doing anything till I get some more dry weather!

Quick update on the repairs! I moved onto the bumper mounting this weekend which took a little thinking as the mounts to the bumper were gone ...

So decided to rescue the original bumper for now as it had so many mods done to it to accommodate the intercooler this was the faster option! I sanded all the accident damage / smudged plastic from hitting the tyre wall and removed the dead number plate ...

Photo1930.jpg

So it all looked quite rough...but after a spot of heat gun action at least it is now shiney and bumpy...with holes in it (can only aid cooling )...

Photo1931.jpg

I had to re-weld the side bracket support back on as I discovered that had broken loose (maybe when I straightened the wing out with the hydraulic jack). Then drilled and bolted through the front of the mounts which allow the bumper to come off much easier. It is not as neat but looks racey I guess...And voila!...

Final work needed is to fit / make a grille. I am keen to have a go at making a grille but I have Alik's spare one and the old one is potentially fixeable so will see how it goes.

So just needs an MOT now really! :slayer:

Ok so final stage complete! Fitted the other style of marbella grille kindly donated by Alixcompo :slayer:

A lick of paint and it looks as good as new...SEAT should have colour coded these grilles, makes such a difference! Need to fix one mounting but otherwise it is a better fit than the old one. Although I am torn between the 2 slat grille and this 3 slat design...will see how it goes anyway. The Old one is still potentially rescue'able!...

So now on with the weight reduction!

Hey Si. Re the ECU issues. I found this digiplex on ebay

http://www.ebay.it/itm/FIAT-REGATA-...Ricambi_automobili&hash=item338ac04dcd&_uhb=1

The Fiat group seemed to use the same box of tricks for all their motors at the time. Granted an identical 'looking' ecu could be a disaster but then all its really doing is advancing and retarding the ignition. The number on my digiplex unit is 410a and the ebay one is a 405a. Worth a flutter maybe.

There's some evidence on the Italian Y10 site that Turbo owners have used Delta, Croma etc digiplexes on their Turbos.

Hey man! Yeah I noticed a lot of variants of this ECU, nervous to try one but it could be a good idea to try it and see if it still has an issue. It just stops after running for a while so I don't need to risk the engine under load just need to find out if that is the component that is failing. I have a new coil on the way (I think it is fine but the resistance measurement seems a little higher than the stated amount in the workshop manual (6k+ ohmes instead of ~4k ohms).

So that might fix it. But the coil was new back in 2010 and it hasn't done crazy miles...

not sure what else it could be really...

Will probably buy one of those other digiplex units and try it, and maybe order myself a megajolt kit as an emergency back up plan...which I will have to learn about quickly as I am supposed to be at Wiscombe hillclimb next weekend

arg arg argh!!!

If you pick up the postage i'll lend you mine. I'll put it in recorded mail, its not as if mines doing very much sitting on a shelf. I'm not gonna Turbo the Y10 this month. I take its your is the 410a version?

Sorry been running around like a headless chicken ordering as many replacement parts as possible  Whatever doesn't solve it will just become a useful spare anyway.

So blu73, good point about the TDC sensor, I checked the resistances on them both and they were within specification but might be begining to fail as they warm up as you suggested. The Y10 turbo actually has an engine speed sensor on the flywheel as well so I have ordered both of them

The sensors it has are:
TDC - SEN8D (yellow one in the picture)

Revs - SEN8E (black one in the picture)

and the picture :p...

Dude! That would be fantastic, it'll only be used to fault find and I will post it back as soon as I have 'hopefully' ruled that out as a possibility. it takes about 10 mins of running engine on idle / ~80deg I think before it dies...so should know fairly quick. Anyway I'll PM you in just a mo!

Also yes mine is the Digiplex 410A as well (y)

Well quick update...

1) I fitted new sensors and problem remained :(

2) Borrowed ECU arrived safely huge thanks to Kris Giacosa.

3) Fitted said ECU but engine still conked out...hmmm odd lol

4) Fitted new coil and same, car won't start or run....

Oh wait is there a rag over the intake of the engine!!....well that might cause that lol I might be wrong about this, it's just I came back to the car after popping out to find the rag on the intake and couldn't remember if it was on while I was trying to run it before. I hate it when I have doubt in my mind, makes is so hard to diagnose!

5) Anyway remove said rag!!

6) Re-fit borrowed ECU and runs sweet no conking out, gets up to temperature and fan kicks in (further than it ever got before).

7) Put back on old ECU and engine conks out after running for a little while again

8) refit what is seeming to be the "good" ECU and runs till I get bored so I guess it is looking like an ECU fault unfortunately...

9) then I notice...hmmm wait the battery terminal lead looks a little dodgy and loose! Maybe this is contributing....

And this is where I am at! Will try to take the car into work tomorrow with old ECU fitted and battery terminal fixed.

If it still fails then it is definitely the ECU and I cross that bridge!!

Running a little close to the deadline here but looking much more promising now thankfully. Watch this space, thanks for all assistance! :slayer:

It cool man, Glad some of my Turbo kits getting used instead of collecting dust. Got the pymnt by the way :)

Just a thought but what does the vacuum hose on the ECU connect to. Is it just there to tell the boost gauge what to read or does it acually do some vacuum advancing of the ignition. Either way it must have some odd setup inside.

OK, all looking ok at the moment so booked in for MOT tomorrow. It was the ECU in the end as ran it up from cold with Battery lead fixed and old ecu caused engine to conk out still and Kris' ran sweet! Might need some luck on the emissions if the Air/Fuel gauge is anything to go by though

The vacuum hose on the ECU attaches to the back of the carburettor and I think it reads both vacuum and boost pressure and chooses a safe ignition timing to suit...

the thin blue pipe coming out the ECU just to the right side of the heater air box and it goes in to the back of the carburettor...

This ECU has also solved a throttle pick-up issue it used to have I think (from an initial test drive today) so looks like the old ECU might have been on its way out for a while...

Interestingly I know now why it was failing / failed! It was filled literally with water  It must have got in there from the severely heavy rain at castlecombe last october without me noticing and then was left standing from then till a few weeks ago. :( The ECU might be salvageable though but it had issues before anyway so looking for a replacement is still worth it! Old ECU is currently drying out in the garage ...

Wish her luck in the MOT tomorrow, going to be hard to concentrate at work I think!

I'm sure it will be fine, its old enough to have to pass the higher emissions - if you fail that then something is afoot really.

ecu full of water would explain it lol. Is that where it sits in them pics..? If so not hugely surprising really it got wet really, could you not extend some wires and have it inside, up behind the dash or something....

I am up for petitioning for effort to be included in the MOT if everyone else on here is :D

ECU shouldn't normally get wet in that position though, it was such heavy rain though it just went everywhere and might have been a few seconds before I got the bonnet shut in time. I've mounted the ECU the other way up now though so the connector cannot let in water and also put a bit of tape around it to better seal it (I don't want to kill this one!! It's not mine to kill this time haha)

:(

today was not the day it seems. maybe tomorrow will bring more luck...

Failed on:
1) Emissions - now hopefully sorted as lambda is telling me it is running lean and the exhaust gas analyser agrees!
2) Headlights badly adjusted...well they should have seen it before I fixed the front end! Not sure why they didn't just adjust them...never been failed on headlights before!!! Unless it has been a bulb out
3) My sun visor as it was obstructing the swept region of the windscreen...so will have to find another way of blocking the power of the sun! For now temporarily removed for the MOT...
4) Brake pipe leaking....now that was a shocker. It appeared to be leaking from the pipe where it goes into the calliper. Can't believe that, so dangerous. it was spongy but I thought that was because the pads were new. anyway didn't seem that loose but I managed to get a few more torques into it and the leak seems to be gone now...

so MOT tomorrow then? that would be nice...I am quite exhausted really

Time for dinner and then I imagine almost immediately bed...

BLARG!

perhaps they did try adjust and either adjuster didn't work or it wouldn't adjust far enough - my cinq failed on headlights but i managed to bodge them and pop back same day. Mine was purely cause the push fittings on one side of the lights are so old they don't really hold the lights in one place, i need to fix that properly actually so thanks for the reminder.

Good luck for tomorrow ;)
