Hi
I recently bought a Marea Weekend from the car auctions. Everything is great except the boot won't lock. The key fits in the barrel but won't turn. Do you think i should just buy a new barrel & key (I'm not bothered that I will have to have a seperate key for that lock as long as I can lock it). I don't think its to do with the handle problems that seem to be mentioned on other threads. If I change the barrell will it effect the central locking? I'm not particularly mechanically minded so any advice would be great!:)

Hi the boot lock seems to be a problem with Mareas now especislly if they havent been kept lubricated. I would try WD40 and see if you can get it working, the key dosent turn much anticlockwise to lock it.

I havent changed a barrel so I dont know what effect it would have.

Thanks! I shall give it a go..

probably a seized barrel; does it lock with the remote or when you lock the driver's door? suggest take the whole thing apart and free everything up then reassemble using plenty of copperease.....

Hi
No it doesn't lock at all. And unless I really slam the boot the central locking keeps pinging open (but I'm guessing thats the infamous boot handle issue!).

Sometimes the catches on the body at either side of the door slide backwards slightly - I've had to adjust mine forwards a couple of times now - couple of screws/bolts and edge it as far towards you as possible. That 'should' sort out the central locking as it should now close correctly on both sides....

I will try adjusting the strikers on mine. Its a bit touchy about closing but I put it down to the lock problem these cars develop. Hadnt thought about adjusting the closing. Thanks

5 minutes with a 10mm spanner on the strikers each side of the tailgate, well the mating part on the body, and the tailgate latches really well no mater how you shut it. This must be due to wear in the hinges lock etc causing some slop and the adjustment tightens it. Great post

This problem came back again on my car. I eventually had to fix it by drilling out the holes on the nearside striker plate 2mm to give more adjustment. I was concerned that the moveable plate would just drop into some unreachable area and rattle around. Removing the side trim showed its captive. If it happens again I can remove and use a rat tail file until it shuts again. It must be the tailgate twisting with age as the bottom opening shuts fine.
It was also suffering with a jamming handle so i peeled off that rubber and oiled it and its working fine now. Just in case I put a self tapper in one of the holes that the rubber overmould keys into so I can pull the handle down if (when ) it jams again.
I uploaded a few pics so those new to these cars can see whats inside the trim
