Just a moan for the morning.

We've just bought our daughter a 59 plate 500 (for completing her exams) and wanted to have a full service carried out on the car given the last few had been undertaken by an unauthorised dealer. On top of this we had arranged for the car to be given a total going over, anything Nd everything that needed doing was going to be done so potentially a nice bit of work for the garage, all they had to do was find a fault and get on with it.

In addition, being that my daughter is a girl, obviously, I wanted the inside and out cleaned and valeted, with an additional steam clean of the engine bay, so I say again, a nice bit of work! All booked way in advance with over two weeks to spare.

Anyhow, given that we live in the middle of Suffolk the dealer is 40 mins away before traffic, which there was bundles of this morning, so road users just wanting to have an accident to not get into work, or that was what it seemed like.

So after fighting our way into bury town centre at 9:15, like most towns it's madness!!

There we are, my wife and I, standing at the service reception desk being being seen to by this girl, why is it young people always seem to be in a mood?! Once she pulled up the details the computer seemed to say No. Nope. Not booked was the reply. At which stage I said it had been booked in weeks ago and that I expect the next thing she's going to tell is that the car won't be sorted today..it was then I stated it wasn't good enough and that I'd like to see the manager, so off wheat stompy through a rear door.

Whist discussing the situation with my wife I had mentioned that it's not acceptable given where we had came from etc etc, remember still talking to my wife, when this man, we'll sort of, still sitting in his seat some 15m away shouted, yes raised his voice enough saying that she's only trying to look after us, whereupon I said was I talking to you?! This from a bloke that a, could be bothered to get off his fat backside to come and talk to me close up, secondly I don't appreciated someone with a bigger head that his body calling me over a showroom floor.

After walking over to him and pointing out I wasn't being aggressive, this seems to be the preferred method for weaker minded people to avoid doing anything which may identify them as being incompetent.

So after explaining the situation and that someone had made a mistake in booking us in he insisted it wasn't anyone in the in the building and my wife must have booked it with someone else! Wait up a minute...how does that work, so I proceeded to say that someone, here, there, wherever was incompetent in doing their job so I asked if it was him? No. What about that fella over there, pointing at another sales person. Not him either.

In the end I decided that that it's not worth the hassle and came away not before me saying that it's not acceptable whereupon the big head (it was huge, bigger than a dustbin lid) said the door is over there.

Where am I now?! Back home left wondering if this dealership is genuinely run by people with little man syndrome. I never got to see the manager but I strongly suspect I know what I would've got from him as bad attitude and or poor customer service, even if they clients do become challenging, is invariably something that gets taught by the most senior person, the manager.

Personally. You need to AVOID this dealers, but if you do go don't talk too loudly when discussing how crap the service is otherwise you just might get a shouted at by someone who can't get off his backside.

The last thing I said was you can keep your *hit service. I've decided to get rid of the 500 and go down the Audi route for the girl as I never, in the 500+ Cars that I have on the road through fleet, not once have I heard of a situation like this. Poor poor poor poor poor poor!!!

Hello, and welcome,

unfortunately there are a fair few FIAT main dealers out there who have no idea on customer service,
that's why there is an excellent ( and busy) " garages to avoid" thread..,

on a personal note,
the 500 is an excellent vehicle, that is VERY straightforward to service,
any FIAT / Alfa specialist will do a fantastic job for a sensible price ( and actually DO the work you pay for..)

cannot comment on German cars as my limited experience is rather poor,

Charlie

You were obviously upset, but saying s*** was shooting yourself in the foot. You have to remain a level above to maintain credibility.

You should have tried Desira in Diss, of even Norwich. I had an issue with my last car but I can't fault the dealership, very decent people who have given me great service over the years.

tbf though the op sounds just like the sort of person to ring one place and turn up at another

Possibly. I can't/won't comment or judge. Could be six of one and half a dozen of the other but the guy is clearly upset so putting a complaint through should be investigated properly and everybody will learn.

Two dealerships in Ipswich one in diss, one in colchester and one in Cambridge as well as quite a few independent fiat specialists dotted about Suffolk and Norfolk (including one in Bury St Edmunds) you shouldn't have any issues finding somewhere else to go.

Fiat dealers are notoriously poor for their customer service, but clearly in this instance there was a mix up over the booking, tensions were high and nothing was done to investigate or resolve the issue.

If you want good customer service go to Audi, if you want great customer service take a trip to cooper mini Ipswich

Don't get an audi! Still buy a Fiat, but take it to an independent garage that you know and trust. I never took my Punto mk2 to a Fiat dealer or specialist, and I shall take my recently purchased Grande Punto to that same all makes mechanic.
