Damaged 59 reg won't start - solutions?

Well I`ve never done one, but having just looked at some pictures of an intact ones engine bay, there seems to be an ECU &/or fuse box just behind the battery which is exactly where your damage is... I`d say this is going to be why its not starting... you`d better budget for ecu/fusebox + programming after as well.

sadly you can not get the marker removed from the register, once they have been recorded as c or d it stops with the car for life.
most people i sell them to are happy they have saved at least £1000+ when they buy them but some people spit on the floor when you tell them its a cat c or cat d, why some people are against buying repaired cars i dont no, its only because it shows on hpi that they no.. just think of all the cars that are repaired through the insurance companys for the owners that dont get recorded. just because its hpi clear dose not mean its not had a accident at some time of its life!!!

this is one car we repaired for the insurance company that will come up hpi clear when the owners sell it. bet the the person who buys this car when it comes up for sale would not buy it if i showed them this photo!!!! chances are they will never no and will be happy with there new car..

I had a 1984 Ferrari 308 up untill a couple of years ago, as some of you might know, when Maranello Concessionaires used to import Ferrari`s back then, they used to register them with the DVLA using only the last 5 digits of the VIN number (they did have a proper VIN number on the car & even on the service book, but not on the log book), so you`d only have those 5 or 6 digits on your log book as both the chassis & engine numbers.

Fine you may think....

Well no, because when you`d give the details to a HPI checking agency, my Ferrari used to come up as a Vauxhall Cavalier that had been written off AND an agricultural digger that had outstanding finance...

As a result several buyers pulled out & quite a few were trying to take huge chunks out of the price because of it even though the car had never actually had anything bad happen to it.

In the end I exported it to Australia.

The HPI system is not without its faults....

Thanks for that link, i looked at doing this a while back and did a google search and all i found was pages of people saying you can not remove a marker from a damaged car..
i will be giving this a try very soon..

Thanks.

the Fuse box is simple to replace if you get one from a breakers it is fitted on 2 rubber lugs and the loom plugs into the base by all accounts (y)

Hi guys!!!!

Well this has been a busy place since I last posted - many thanks! (y) I actually wrote a pretty lengthy reply last night, the lappy froze and returned me on the restore session to a blank reply :bang: Gave up, hence the reply now :p

Took the photos to a garage who I thought may have entertained the repair only to be told - "don't touch it with a barge pole as the resale will not make it financially viable"..... They know me pretty well too as they have done a few paint jobs for me in the past so they obviously wouldn't want to deter inviting work to the business if something wasn't good. Plus they are also looking out for my best interests :)

I disagree, so will get the opinions of a couple more garages tomorrow before (if I need to!), biting the bullet and accepting me and the car are not meant to be  :D

One thing the garage fella did do was put me onto a site called www . copart . co . uk (had to seperate as need 5 posts to name it!) which deals in stolen/recovered and damaged cars. Ebay-esque in it's style but I'm still unsure how to fully navigate around its site as of yet!lol Oh, plus there's a fee of £40 I think it is to register. Could be pointless if I don't intend to buy from it - but you can't bid if you haven't registered

dalemultiwagon you have indeed given me hope this car can yet be repaired BUT I have been a bit more 'realistic' now and increased my budget to £2850 for the car (hopefully get cheaper if want it) and £2150 for the repairs - which will come in below that for sure **crossed fingers**

All the other posts are full of useful info so thanks evryone and keep the opinions flowing ;)

Stephen :D

Morning Dale :)

No mate Im going to be buying from them direct if I get it as that way I get discount ;) I need to decide today as have rang them and they said these cars don't hang around!

Plus, being in Doncaster doesn't matter to me if you'd be willing to undertake the work? Are you a specialist who deals in write offs?

If you are willing please message me with your contact number and we can discuss prices etc :D

Bye for now,
Stephen
