Seicento and other superminis vs. Ka 1.3 Duratec

my mates mums got a 1.3 ka yuk! i would have rather have had my old 1.2 8v punto over it anyday. Although the other day i went with my mate to test drive that new fiesta flame with the 1.4 16v in it, not bad. Id still have my stilo or a punto over a ford anyday. :worship:

A lot of folk tend to compair the wrong cars from manufacturers against each other. The Stilo is really a Focus competitor and priced/sized accordingly, the Fiesta is more of a Punto competitor.

However when Fiat still made the 1.2 Stilo it was slap bang in the middle of the Fiesta market price wise, and you got a whole lot more car for your pennies.

When i picked my Stilo it was a toss up between the Fiat and a new Fiesta. Both priced within a few hundred quid of each other, the Fiesta had aircon, metallic paint and alloys, the Stilo had metallic paint and a funky trip computer and was a much bigger car. I think i picked well, but in 3 years time both cars will be worth the same, but i bet the Fiesta is more reliable being less technical.

That all said in done, i'm glad i picked the Stilo, its the right sized car for me, it's cheap to keep, and there seems by and large to be a good scene for the car.

Ford make...

Kent engines,

BMC made the A series... a better lump IMO (y)

I'm surprised all the people on here saying how a 1.2 punto can slaughter a Ka, I've driven several examples of both and although neither are quick my money would be on a Ka.

As for Stilo's competing with Supermini's on price, its not just the 1.2 which manages that ;)

Re: Ford make...

I remember the Ka having more torque lower down in 3rd, but when I got back into the Punto it did feel faster (not often I say that!) in more gears, especially 1st and 2nd.

Anyway the Ka should be competing with the Cinq, Sei or Panda as they are all the citycars, the Punto is a supermini ;)

The new Ka's don't have the old 60s engine but I do believe, the new 1.25 engine which is a huge improvement. We discussed KAs along time ago, you have to remember that the direct competitor as many have pointed out is the Sei, not the punto, which is faced with the Fiesta and much better competition.

They really are cheaply and badly made, but then again *zips up flame suit and puts on helmet* so are seis compared with for example, the Ford Focus just in the same way. The seats are so uncomfortable that my Dad returned it as a rental car when on holiday and had to upgrade - but then again, he probably would have had the same problem in any similar car because he is used to large, more expensive cars.

Hmm..The Ka feels very flimsy. The Sei doesnt (not that im intentionally being pro-Fiat) its just that the Ka reminds me of the Cinq, PROPER rattles and skaes, none of that refined ride like the Sei...Plus its sluggish, 1.25L, but my 1242'd eat the Ka my mums borrowing for breakfast, providing both cars are warm.

Sport Ka and Street Ka have a new engine, the standard Ka has the derivative of the 1960's Kent motor.

Also on the point about the huge weight between the Street Ka and the standard Ka, its not all that bad, look at the varying weights of the Stilo (as posted by me on the Stilo forum), but then thats down to the weight of the engines, 230kg weight difference between the 1.2 Stilo and the JTD!

230kg?

Pah, thats nowt, just the equivalent of a full car :D

Actually, I think the Ka has recently had an engine upgrade, though I'm not sure it is the 1.25 zetec, as it originally wouldn't fit (hence why it never got that engine in the first place).

Did you know the Ka was originally designed with a two stroke in mind? Emission rule changes however caused Ford to rethink and the only 'off the shelf' engine they had which would fit in the engine bay was the kent.

Re: 230kg?

Ner ner, James.

Just MOT'd my mini Coop today, flew through the test. Funnily enough it had a higher engine capacity than my Stilo! 1275cc versus 1242cc.

Stilo is quicker top speed, thanks to 2 more gears, more economic, very relaxing. But then if i want some fun i take the mini, stick super UL, and an octane booster, and race anything that will race me.

Re: 230kg?

Well the car in question is even ****ter now.

The poor lass got it broke in to last night:( They took the radio and they have literally bent the passenger door in half to get in. Poor lass, she is so upset.

Little b*@tards. No wonder my insurance policy here is so high.

Little s***s

I hope they realise the error of there ways...

...other wise I hope some 19stone hardcase with a baseball bat cathes them at his car next (y)

Re: Little s***s

What they don't know is that out of the three guys I live with, two are mad irishmen with guy liscences and the other goes to the gym 5 times a week and plays rugby union. heheh.

Re: Little s***s

know its late in the day to pick up on this ref the metro, the A series was used in the Austin metro era while in the Rover era it was using the then very new K series.

As for the thiefing fecks, hope someone catches up with them sods, happened to my dads car on the 2nd of january, door wasnt damaged but was still a pain to clean up all the glass.

With the Street/sportKa. Ive noticed that although its got a 1.6 in it, it appears to be some older 8v unit they have stuck in and some poor sod that wants to go racing his street/sportKa with someone in the know with a Punto Sporting or MG ZR (baring in mind both these cars have 16v 1.4's in them) is going to be ending up rather upset

I had a hire Ka car (a few yrs ago so it would only b 1.3) and I actually can say I quite enjoyed driving it - it was a lot nippier than I thought. That said - I couldn't wait to get back in my cinq n give it a good thrashing cos the Ka couldn't corner for toffee :p
