I bought one today that I find at *spits* ebuyer, everywhere I try it has good reviews. It does DVD-RAM so you can have timeshift which is cool (Pause live TV) obviously it's not as good as some on the market but it's a brand name, it has quite a few good features including a firewire connection I believe and it should be good value.

Please don't blame me if it is crap and somebody buys, I am buying it based on reviews and not first hand experience:

what exactly is a factory refurbished DVD recorder?

Does this mean that it has broken at some point and been repaired?

I *think* the history behind these players is this:

Last october they were released as a £399 player. THey had a loading problem on the tray so most were returned, JVC did a mass refurbed and fixed the problem and sold them mainly to ebuyer, voila. I am happier to buy this particular one knowing any problems have been fixed than buying blindly.

Andy....grrr, now what if it is rubbish, you're in media, surely you have 10 of these?!

Edit: As dave has said, usually refurbed just means it has been opened, the person changed their mind and sent it back, but on MSE somebody said that the history was the above. The only worry of buying refurbed is if the warranty is less, in this case it's a year anyway (plus normal "built for purpose laws" still apply I assume) so not a worry there. MY medion PDA I sold was refurbed, signs of use? None, all consumables are replaced (i.e. case, stylus, screen cover, plastic casing etc. etc. My portable philips phone was in everyway, brand new....so I am assuming this will be too apart from that it will have had an engineer updating the software or whatever for the loading problem.

hmm - thanks for that but basically there's no gaurantee there won't be a few scratches on it for example. But it does have a JVC warranty.

But I can't promise, the odd scratch won't bother me, given it just sits under a TV it's unlikely anyway, I also would hope they would have replaced any remote that had been used :)

I am excited about getting mine now!

We can't get them at anywhere near this price, so it is a good deal and they are a good recorder.

Factory refurb doesn't bother me in the slightest becuase they would always be very simply faults otherwise it wouldn't be worth fixing them to sell, they would just scrap them.

Oh cool :) I seriously should work on commision ;)

If you think it is a good buy it hopefully should be then!

Well done Paul, got the recorder today and it is an absolute bargain. It has all the features you want and also external satellite control for programming. I

I reckon these would sell on E-Bay easily for £100.00+, maybe you should buy some stock and sell them on.

You can invoice me for a beer !!

It's pretty good as it has the infra red eye and in the programming menu you select which channel you want to record (and which box your using if Freeview etc). Lot's of DVD recorders don't have this, which is a pain as you need to set up the digibox and the recorder seperately.

Did you buy one Stu.
