What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

I'm sitting near an upstairs window and hear a large truck approaching slowly. I'm expecting a delivery, so have a look out.
Not mine, but a 30tonne rigid curtainsider, looking for somewhere to 'park' in our congested cul-de-sac. He parked across a few drives, inevitable, lowered himself from the cab and wandered across the road trying to read house numbers, while walking up the road away from the truck. Most houses have clear numbers, so I'm not sure why he was struggling.
Then, the second brain cell chimed in with the first, and he turned back to approach the drive with the builder's van in it. (A clue perhaps?)

If delivering building materials, is it likely that the delivery point might have builders present? With only one house having a builder's van in the drive, is that the likely delivery point? Should we look there first?

And now he's back out on the road, piloting a heavy truck, heading towards YOU. At least for the moment, he's heading away from ME!

I saw this tidy looking 156 near my work one morning..long row of parked cars.. it had a space saver on the front end.. back in early june

Saw it later that day..after parking demands had eased.. the back had been 'remodelled'.. shame

Roll on 8 weeks..

Back again today

How.. why..

A strange dent in the back. Perhaps reversed into a post or bollard, rather quickly, or the corner of a wall. Can't see how another vehicle would cause that damage, with no obvious evidence from the other vehicle, and a wall should leave more scrapes. So my guess is a post in a car park, and a reverse manoeuvre done too quickly.

Space saver remains, as can't get the other wheel out of the boot.

Looking at the pic again..

Probably a 3ft high post..rearwaerd visability is poor due to boot

It appears its gone 12+ inches into boot floor.. but only just touched top of bootlid

See how the underside of bumper is now pointing down so far..!!

'Buckled alloy' possibly a 1st :p

That was a very strange experience. Didn't watch much of it.

Left me wondering how you found it, how bored were you, etc. But please, I don't think I need an answer. The vid images are just odd, the thoughts around how you found it, may not go away for some time. I may need medication.:D

you must be old enough to remember the twilight zone, it was in black n white i think. was on out tv anyway as it was a b&w set

Quite probably, but if it was b&w, possibly before we got a telly. When we did, it was mostly shades of fuzzy grey. So, no, doesn't ring a bell. A missed opportunity. Should I add it to my list of regrets?

it was rerun all through the 70's its a classic you need to find it and watch them. They influenced the writers of many other classic films and books.
Its referenced all the time in other things.
you wont have a clue what this bit in family guy is then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhNFdSIxgj4

it used to make me grumpy but no longer, but I sure do not smile when I see people driving in the rain with their hazards on. LOL

Watches. Money no object I could have a few, there is something about them.
Got a basic Tissot clockwork motion winder about 15 years ago which is indestructible with a sapphire crystal, could take a hammer blow, once or twice almost has. It looses a few sec every week which gets annoying. Now I notice it stalls every now and then.

My wife got me a Seiko Kinetic, one of the neater lower cost designs with that movement, about 10 years ago, which held perfect time but the glass got chipped and scratched. Why make such a watch without sapphire crystal, its about the same price as the Tissot.

Since then got a cheap Casio digital with alleged 10 year battery and that's what I wear...
Tried the kinetic again, won't hold charge. Looked that up, the rechargeable battery is £16, about the same as the Casio, and everyone has to replace them about every 10 years or less. I have replaced it, destroying the seal ring too, which I now might order.

The Casio will accept a £2 or less battery for less work, or I could throw it away and get new. The plastic face shows fewer scratches too.
I appreciate detailed engineering and economic performance, the Kinetic is elegant but flawed, so Casio wins hands down. Think you might need to spend well into the £100s to get anything with more reliable movements.

Aye PB. I too found it strangely disturbing. I can't quite pin it down but somehow it made me think - if you asked a bunch of aliens to employ some other "shape shifting" aliens to make a "sexy" pop video depicting human characters - maybe you would come up with something like this? but the pistol? really didn't "get" that. Oh, and no, I don't want to watch it again either there was something very "uncomfortable" about it.!

Sorry, forgot to click the quote box, this was in relation to that strange pop video linked by Dave.

I havent worn a watch for 30+ years

Had an allergic reaction to the backplate on a cheap watch.. so after months without.. and an occupation that kills them.. I dont generally bother

Had a couple of Dress watches.. but invariably on the odd occasion I wanted to wear it :Interviews..weddings etc it would be dead :(

So the OH got me a kinetic :)

Certainly worked when I last recall wearing it.. an interview ( been there since Oct14 ;) )

A guy at work asked me to make a tool for opening a £1000 watch.. they wanted £80 to change it 4 batteries.

My punto dashboard clock loses 3 minutes a year.. that not bad enough for replacement ;)

Time flies e.t.c.

That new car I've been talking about forever needs to be sorted by end of next month really, Citroen is due back early October.

Now I had a plan for what I was going to do...it wasn't an exciting plan but it was a plan none the less (C3 Aircross...for those that missed it).

Then took the Mazda in for it's service and this was looking at me..

so about 1/5th the cost of what I was going to spend and older and higher mileage than I what I have already.

Buuut no car payments.. plenty of money left in the kitty for four new tyres, a bit of a tidy up, a new stereo with DAB and Android Auto.

Costs about 50 quid more a year to insure than the Mazda..fuel on my mileage will be about 300 quid more a year..tax is 150 quid more. But I'm saving half of the initial chunk I was going to put down and the 250 quid a month over 3 years I was planning to spend on a car loan. Also to me it's 1000x more interesting than anything else I've looked at.

I'd need to get the underside looked at to make sure it has no bad rust but if it lasts 2 years without providing a massive bill job done.

I've been considering a Legacy recently too, I put it down to watching too much MCM, but maybe they're actually also just a good car?!
