the house i live in was built in the 1700's for a Manor House nearby, which has since been demolished...

So the workers house, outlasted the masters house.. oh the irony.

This village was no more than a few farms back in the 1700s, it then went mental when a drift mine was built and most houses are like mine at 100+ years old.

The mine then closed in the 50s/60s and the whole place was listed for destruction and bits were knocked down in a pretty haphazard manner. Once had a yellowpages man saying ok right I've found the even numbers for ramsay street but where are the odds? Answer being nowhere they were knocked down 40 years ago.

Strangely all the areas that were knocked out now have new estates on them, except of course they aren't victorian terraces and they haven't continued the numbers or street name so you have streets of new builds with an old surviving house seemingly in the same street but with a different street name and inexplicable number.

Re: What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

My wife has worked really hard and shown an amazing amount of willpower to lose a fair bit of weight that she'd put on while working stupid long hours running two pubs (constant snacking and eating at work) , her best friend who is just a lazy sod got her husband to fork out 5000 for a gastric band op because she says she can't be bothered to diet..... no one seems to put any effort in to anything these days...

Well feels like autumn today..windy changeable weather 8 degrees cooler than last week. Trees aren't turning yet for the most part, but they've already gathered the crops in etc. .

One of these was taken mid September 2012...the other was taken today.

Without looking at the date stamps you'd be totally wrong.

Re: What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

my mum has probable written off her car
my dad has bought her a Merc as a replacement a SLK 230K
it's a nice colour auto box and goes like stink
it's also a 15 year old Merc with 70K on the clock and looks it too

Dunno how I feel about it hence the smiles and grumpys are cancelled out. My mum is too nervous to drive it too! I worry it's gonna be a money pit.

Re: What's made you not grumpy but not smile either today?

me and the boy was playing in Ikea wembley this evening when they said everyone has to leave the store because there was a problem with an instore system, was a bit worrying after watching the news this morning, not sure if if they just didn't want to panic everyone and the risk was more than a system error
