This article is about the use of disguised tasers being used by criminals.

One of the comments on this article is:

"More to the point: in this country we are not "allowed" to have pepper spray, personal tasers, guns... In short, nothing to defend ourselves. Just sheep, really, aren't we?"

Right, now I think that if we ALL had protection like a .38 pistol, then surely all criminals would ensure that they had the same or greater weapons at their disposal before mugging etc?

Its just a big circle, police carry guns, criminals carry guns; citizens carry guns, criminals carry bigger guns.

What you all reckon?

yeah i kinda agree with you mate, it jus becomes survival of like the fittest etc like you said, if we carry a knife they carry a sword, if we carry a pistol, they carry a shotgun lol (all theoretical) to the point where we are justing wearing bulletproof vests on a day to day basis. although having said that, if i was to get mugged at gunpoint, i would rather have a gun, than not have one. Although my prison sentence self defence would be twice as long as the criminally repeating scumbag's and he be let out on bail while im in the slammer lol

hahaha yeah exactly mate. just a big circle. but yeah, like you said about the mugging, id rather have something to defend myself with.

right now, the criminal will probably have no idea what you're carrying, but if everybody did they would have some expectation of what to expect and hence would bring more to mug you with

if it got to that stage, it would be W.W.3 pretty much everyday, and the world wold be fooked - no joke - think back 100 hundred years, hell think back 50 years (well not us lol but ask a parent) and theyll say we didnt have stuff like this happening. if it did get that bad you wouldnt be able to leave the house, your average silly drunken night out scrap with your best mate would result in a lengthy stretch, as becuase you were carrying a weapon you used it. Also the escalation would result in things like amateur homemade bombs etc etc just to sta ahead of the game - it would be carnage.......... PLUS my thatcham approved steering wheel lock would near as dammit useless then. Which may prompt me to get a TOAD alarm lol  (every cloud....)

No need to carry weapons here, not a huge problem. If in doubt...run like ****.

it was in a sense that, petrol prices are forever increasing, and its ridiculous, but as most of us rely on putting some sort of fuel in our cars we need to pay it - but that isnt nowhere is near as funny or witty. no i have never actually been mugged by a petrol pump or the cashier..

The biggest problem in the uk is the daily mail
Mmm, you might be right there. If you look at Daily Mail headlines they seem to be almost exclusively that house prices are crashing, pensions are worthless, schools are infested by drug dealers and peodophiles and every pub in the country is full of predatory muggers and attackers of old ladies.

I think there is a need for perspective in stories in the Mail, and this article shows their typical lack lack of it. Oh, mustn't forget accuracy or lack of it.

We've known about these for some time and, while not trivialising their effect, they are no-where near as powerful as the ones the Police use. They may have a 50,000 volt output but you can die from 240v from a mains socket or appliance and the old ('50s & '60s) electric rail network in the South East used 600v and people died every year after stepping on the third rail.

We also know about scales for weighing drugs disguised as mobile phones but so far the Mail doesn't seem to, although as soon as they do, rest assured our schoolchildren will be corrupted.

The picture in the Mail article shows the Departure Hall of Terminal 1 at Manchester. These things are coming into the country not going out so I'd have thought a photo of the Customs post at Arrivals would have been more appropriate. But then why let accuracy get in the way of a good story?

i completely agree with you, i wasnt explicitly referring to the article, more the comment that was made and it just made me think.

Look at America, most police carry guns because most criminals do etc etc.

As mentioned the best option is to run.

Anyone trained in what to do with armed confrontation etc? just curious, iv been in a number of situations and never known wtf to do. (never an armed situation though)

This is one of the few countries in the world where Police aren't "routinely armed", in fact, armed Cops in this country can't be sent to Public Order Incidents unless there really is no alternative as there is the risk that someone will get hold of the weapon. They seem to manage elsewhere.

As to how to deal with someone with a firearm, then I think the old Hollywood U.S. Army maxim of "If I say jump, you say how high" applies. If you get a chance to leg it then do so. Most criminals with guns are notoriously inaccurate so if you get more than 25 yards away the chance of them hitting you (shotguns excepted) drops by about 75% and if you get 50 yards then you'll have time to drop your trousers in the gunman's general direction; although you might want to keep on running.

One little tip: If you are confronted by an armed man, and get the chance to run, remember that a handgun barrel will rise with the recoil and it will take a couple of seconds to get an aim on you again. If the gunman decides to fire the weapon in archytypal Gangsta position (by holding the weapon on its side) that means it will recoil to the gunman's left; so run to his right.....er, unless he's left-handed in which case run to his left. Oh Bo**ocks, just give him your wallet.

Sod guns. I can kill a man with my bare fists. :slayer:
Sod your bare fists, I can kill a man with my holiday snaps.....from the other side of the room!
