Fair enough, I was just curious why. Wasn't a big deal honestly :) I misread the op's post which sounded like they were getting winter wheels :)

It might not be a legal requirement but I never mix tyre models across the axle.

You are one very lucky person to be walking away from that!

You should always have the same Size and speed rating/weight rated tyres on the same axle

So yes your front could be wider then the rear :)

Never mix Radial tyres and crossply tyres as said in post above
IF such event does occour - Crossply must be on the front axle as a pair

most modern tyres tho are radials tho :)

its weird when you say that

But its the same principle when you have radial and cross ply's

If you have a mix and crossply's are on the rear, expect some sliding action

I alway used to think best on fronts - but college quickly pointed me out there

Ziggy

Best tyres on the rear because it's always better to lose the front than the rear. This thread is a prime example of why understeer is better for just driving about on everyday roads :)

Suppose its a possibility that it wasnt a good make of tyre but it would just be speculation and we will never know now as its gone to the crusher

What i do know is that looking through the last service receipt it cost £65 for the tyre that replaced the one needed to be replaced at the MOT so cant imagine its a ditchfinder or a poor make for that price

what size is it? 65 is budget for some sizes

Yes it was a 65

A family mechanic aand friend for 20 years+ so i dont think he wouldve put anything rubbish on maybe even a better tyre with a discount

Either way i am not going to dwell on what make of tyre one was, if it was a ditchfinder or not or if it was a factor in my accident, weve got no evidence and we will never know

The fact i am here is a miracle and closure in itself

ill let you lot debate tyres
