I have just been round three post offices in the suburbs of Carlisle trying to get my car taxed. One of them (my local) doesn't do car tax and the other two which used to be there (and do car tax) have closed in the last year: one is a sweet shop and the other is a ladies clothing shop. So now I have to go into the city centre tomorrow and endure about an hour long wait which I'm none too pleased about. Grrrrrrr

All I want to do is what people have always done - walk into the post office with my bits of paper and my credit card and tax my car but they keep closing them. Dave are you sure they haven't closed them, this was the first I knew about these closing ;).

yep am sure ones even got a big sign out side saying get tax here (y)

something bugging me, i went to local vichele(i can never spell that) licence office last week and its had a load of money re-fit, i thought they were closing them down soon, if so whats the point spending loads of money re-fitting it

Dave, that's stupid business for you, there will have been various reasons for it, none of which make sense to normal people.

Vehicle, veh - icle, it's easy when you remember where the h goes.

Re: Don't you dare..................................

You want to know why i will?

I made a complain on day 1, (can't remember date), auto reply on day 2 "we receivered your email", day 4 "you sent it to the wrong address, we will forward" day 8 "Paul, receieved this complaint but I only got half your msg when forwarded, could you resend your complaint?"

"No because I submitted it via. an online form hence don't have a copy nor have the will to rewrite it"

If people don't use the post office enough it will shut.

I'm fed up of seeing stories in the press about this or that "public facility" being shut down.

USE IT OR LOSE IT! :bang:

I forgot to make a point really. I believe helz will agree with me.

I don't mind too much if they close a few POs aslong as the ones remaining are easily accessed and offer an excellent service (i.e. proper opening times). I understand the PO network needs to bring itself into the 21st century (or even up to the standard most companies were at in the 70s) BUT they should only do this if the service improves.

Yes Paul I do agree with you as my point is that my supposedly 'local' post office is in a busy city centre, on the other side of the city from parking. If my real local post office offered car tax I would of course get it there, but I cant.
