Diesel to become EVER such a lot more expensive?

wont everything on the shelves be more expensive too?

Reasonable and natural assumption that extra fuel costs for transport will be passed on to Customers.

We all know papers speculate and this could be alarmist but like a lot of "theories" they can be based in fact.

In the past if something was popular the prices came down... not it seems with diesel...

Er in the past if demand was high for the same supply prices went up, tis the law of supply and demand, only time prices come down is if for example a manufacturer is benefiting from economies of scale, or new production techniques.

Few houses available prices go UP.

Few good used cars of a particular type prices go UP.

Plenty crap cars of a particular type about price comes DOWN.

Whatever... your not a diesel user then? Good choice (with hindsight)

that's because the two first examples relate to a shortage in supply (with no change on demand, hence price increase). The third example is an increase in supply with no change in demand, hence a fall in the average price level.

I can't believe people are suprised the price of diesel is on the up with so many people buying diesel fuelled cars

Hmmm... the article states that demand will indeed increase, as a preferred ecologigally friendly fuel for ships (ffs) and force up the price for all.
Diesel is not the unrefined sludge it used to be by the way, it is a far more sophisticated fuel now, but 10 - 12p extra per litre over unleaded is taking the proverbial Mickey IMO.

That 10-12p is ALL tax. ITs actually cheaper to buy whole sale than petrol. IIRC diesel is a by-product of petrol anyway and only needs a little bit of work to refine it into the finished product.

They would do the same to LPG if everyone went out and bought an LPG conversion.

Scaremongering if you ask me..........So where does the figure of 50% come from?? or has someone just made it up? This wont happen overnight, this is a proposal and it will take years and years to setup and implicate and that assumes its accepted in the first place. Personaly I think if it will have such an adverse affect on the price and availabilty of oil products the UN and the various Governments of the world likely to be affected will not agree to it until the oil companies are in a postion to meet the extra demand and have increased their production and manufacturing capabilities. In addition to this there is the question of the fuels being used now, what will happen to them? wont the fact that demand for them will drop, offset the increasing demand for Diesel?

not sure if that is true, i reckon it's probably just another distillant of crude oil - but to say it's a by product of is like saying petrol is a by product of oil.

anyhoo, if it was true - less people using petrol in favour of diesel, that's going to cause a drop in supply of petrol ergo drop in supply of diesel combined with an increase in demand for diesel - BOOM - PRICE EXPLOSION!

Trouble is, once it hits the papers & people start believing it, this then clears the way for the Government to push the price up to get more revenue.

I wonder why 'they' can't find a way of reducing the sulphur dioxide as the exhaust gases are being vented?
