monitor fascia

Lets get start with monitor fascia first. When you`re buying monitor for car usage, look at what-is-inside-box before purchasing to check that monitor holder is included in the package. It`s a lot easier to work and to make fascia if there is a holder included.

Front heating grills with headunit must be removed. After that, grills are easy to pull out and we can proceed with monitor holder mounting. Check that it fits ok and choose angle of viewing.

After that, cut the hole for monitor holder.

and test how everything will look :)

After that, remove monitor and leave holder in place. Holes on the side should be filled with styrofoam, so cut small pieces and put them on left and right side.

Also, styrofoam should be placed instead of monitor, to prevent polyester resin from going inside holder. I placed alu foil over styrofoam for easy removing after.

Now we are ready for polyester applying. First cut the texture and place it over the fascia. After that, prepare mixture of resin and hardener, according to the manual included in the polyester set. Now use brush and apply that mixture over the polyester cloth

Wait a few minutes and do that again. I used 3 layers. Keep in mind that working with polyester is not healthy so avoid closed spaces like garages, etc ... it`s better to work outside if weather permits.

After few hours of drying, cut the side pieces (I used dremel) and use sandpaper with lowest grade first. It`s good to test it in the car at this moment, like I did

Use the dremel to take out styrofoam from the front and test the monitor fitment. Maybe some small part of resin is spilled at the holder so cut that out if monitor won`t fit ok.

Now it`s getting to look cool :) Use the higher grade sandpaper and sand the mask and combine later filling cement/filler to fill small holes left on polyester. After that, use the highest grade sandpaper until everything start to look smooth and glossy. Now we are ready to paint it or cover with some foil or leather.

I used the plastic primer before painting, just to be sure that paint will stay on the mask.

and matt black paint after that

4 upper holes at monitor holder will be used for fixing fascia. The bolts will be screwed into plastic on the back and it`s quite solid and stable. Maybe someone will choose a different way of fixing it in place, my solution was the first thing that got on my mind :)

Because I`m not very good at sanding, there are some holes and scratches left on fascia. I decided later to put carbon foil over it and now it looks like this
