Re: First to second gear

We recently had a customer who visited us for repairs for the 38th time :D

Over what period of time? And why hasn't he/she sold the car yet?

Sounds like you need to give him/her not only a VIP card but a private limo and a chauffeur..

I got about 20 visits in with the (now sold) Fiat Doblo JTD in 3 years.

Was it a GP, T ?

Re: First to second gear

very simple, 6 months take it back to the dealer, they check the car over, go thru any updates (haha) that may need doing and usually drop the oil and replace the oil filter (it's a free service apart from consumables like the oil and filter)
6 months after that you have your standard annual service which is at your cost, it's then just 12 months or 30,000km whichever comes first.

Just revisiting this point - can you give me a rough idea how much the oil and filter will cost me? With my old car I just used generic brands so it was dirt cheap, but assuming they use genuine Fiat parts then I simply have no clue. I know we have different currencies but having a rough idea will at least let me know if the dealer is ripping me off.

Btw how come this first service at 6 months is free except for the consumables?

Thanks :)

Re: First to second gear

Wouldn't it be easier to rename the title to something like Fiats Downunder?

Actually noticed one of the rear tyres blew this morning, so will have to change it tonight :bang:

Was told once if changing tyres the new one(s) should go to the front and the front ones go to the back. Is that really essential?

Re: First to second gear

Cool thanks. I've never taken the wheel cover off before - how hard is it to take it off and place it on the spare? Any special tools required?

(Sorry I'm in the office so can't try it out)

no special tools, just get ready for black fingers!
Pull at it quite hard and a ten to two position, careful not to be too rough though, remember it's only thin plastic.

Ok will give it a try tonight.

Its all coming back now. Last night as I was pulling out of a carpark the car felt a bit sluggish, but I didn't think much of it because it had a full load of people. I would have driven about 20km on a popped tyre - would there be any damage done? (Not sure how deflated it was when I drove it home, but I didn't really feel the car leaning towards one side..)

sounds like it was a slow puncture, the wieght of the people would have just accellerated it a little i guess then over night it has gone completely.
wouldnt worry to much about it, there was enough pressure in it for you not to realise so will more than likely be ok.

Yeh that's what it sounds like. Mind you I had driven on a flat tyre for months on my old car, pumped it up every week or so cos I was too tighta$$ to get it replaced :)thumbd:), and that seemed ok. Not a chance I'll leave it flat this time!

Re: First to second gear

Ok, got it changed. The wheel cover didn't need pulling - once the four bolts came off so did it :) When I drove off with the new tyre the car kind of dropped a little to the left (it was the rear left that went), is this normal?

Turned out there were two relatively small screws/nails in the tyre (the bit where it makes contact with the ground, not the face), which got me thinking. I've been driving for a few years now and I've never ran over something that blew a tyre.

Anyway, will take the spare tyre to a tyre place 50m down the road and see if they can patch it up. Don't really care about the tyre, just hope I haven't damaged the actual wheel..

Turbodiesel, iirc you mentioned that a spare tyre is important in your decision because of your long distance driving. Let me assure you that you're completely right with that!

Man that's just bad luck Kev, I'm starting to feel sorry for you now :(

Screws and nails are usually around construction sites or factories, being the rear tyre you must have reversed over it somewhere...

Yep, no matter how rarely it happens I ain't going anywhere without a spare in the boot! Just to be double safe I also have a pump and tyre pressure gauge in there with it (y)

Glad you sorted it out, at least you don't need to rely on the dealer this time:) As much as the they may dislike you, I doubt anyone who wants to keep their job would do something like that. I doubt it was because of reversing, but that's a good point - if the rear went then why didn't the front?

There's a little tool kit with the GP's spare wheel, quite nifty actually, but no pump or pressure gauge unfortunately ;)

Re: First to second gear

Is that because the dealer usually settles the issue(s) before it becomes a legal battle?

I'm sending an email to the sales rep I originally dealt with now, so that he's at least aware of what's going on.

usually yeah.
I know before it ever gets to that point the distributor comes to play and will try and help resolve the issue.
Good idea on making sure the rep knows, sometimes the two depts dont talk to each other end the salesman might know nothing of it, happens to me i know that much. as soon as i am aware of it then the sales team tend to press on them and get things sorted.
I've been in the same situation with an Alfa that i sold about 6 months ago, i've spoken to the guy, as you do just to keep in touch and make sure things are running well. He mentioned that the car had been in once so the next time i called to see what was happennig i got a mouthful as it had been in another 2/3 times after that. In theory i should have been told and not gone into it blind but things just get lost in translation and forgotten about. as it happens i ound out and pressed on the service guys until it was fixed. the car didnt go back to the customer until i had driven it over night and thought myself that i would be happy to own and drive the car.

I think your might be a bit harder than that as the fault is intermitant is that right? but either way, it should and will be sorted! Just quote pretty much what i have told you about the fit for purpose etc and it should get sorted sharpish!

The point isn't really about whether its intermittent or not - there's something (reoccuringly) wrong with it - simple as that.

How does this email sound? Not too rude and straight to the point I hope?

Dear xxx,

My name is Kevin and six months ago I bought from you a Fiat Punto with Dualogic transmission (xxx xxx). Ever since then I have been having constant problems with the transmission, that is, the gearbox judders/jerks violently when moving off from standstill in first gear to second gear. I have already visited your Service department on numerous occasions to have this rectify, and have been told several times that it has been fixed.

In fact I dropped my car off this morning (for a different issue) and this problem has reoccured so they should be looking into this problem now. I would like to point out that I have no other major problems with the car, but what really frustrates me is that the Dualogic was an option that I paid $1500 for and its turned out to be a faulty product/not fit for purpose, and that it doesn't seem fixable by your Service team. I would like to know, if they still cannot fix this (which will be at least the third time they've tried), what you can do for me?

Should you wish to discuss this further please feel free to call me on xxxx xxx xxx.

Best regards,
Kevin
