Hi all,

Went to start me 1.2 Punto and all I got was a cloud of smoke from the alternator belt burning.

The alternator had ceased up!!

and not for the first time....

It was changed when I first brought the car 5 years ago. It ceased again two years ago and replaced and now it has gone again.

Each time its been replaced with new parts,

so I was wondering wtf was happening...over tight belt....cheap replacement parts

thanks

Have a read here Link. The unmodified scuttle drain drops water straight onto the alternator rusting the bearings and freezing the alternator up in very cold weather

If it helps, the part number of the modified drain scuttle I bought was 51810013. I got it from AlfaWorkshop (GP uses same part as Mito) but looks like they are OOS at the moment: https://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/parts/MiTo_Alternator.shtml

Here's a picture of the old (short) one vs the new longer one

As you can see it's nothing special really. I read a couple of posts in the past from people who just modified the old one themselves by glueing in a piece of longer hose themselves

Some background info and pictures in the attached PDF too

Hi, would this modified hose fit a 2014 Panda? I'm having alternator trouble specifically after heavy rain even when I avoid the bigger puddles!

Hi

The 'duckbills' are pretty basic..

So for the cost involved.. why not give it a try

Maybe compare the traditional ones panda to punto..

Part numbers are to be found here :

Thanks very much guys, I'll try the hose before getting a new alternator, it's worth a try for the small cost for sure!
