I had this issue yesterday on my 2008 Grande Punto Sporting. In the end I removed the lock and noticed the the loom connection and connection on the lock was slightly oxidized. I cleaned it and sprayed some WD40 on the connections. Seems to have worked but will keep you posted. Luckily a new lock is ony around £30.

Anyone else had this issue??

Check the wiring going from the car body into the boot at the top of the boot opening, the wires can brake or short as they get older causing this sort of thing.
Yeah checked that. All seems fine and still covered into the fabric conduit. I still think it was the corroded connection pins. After a file, clean and spray with wd40 it seems to be working. I'll keep an eye on it
