They're 16.5cm up front and 13cm in the back, so 6.5" is correct. When you say "speaker housing" do you mean the hole in the door, or is there a plastic surround left behind when the old speaker is removed? If the latter, just take that out. You'll need to drill new holes in the metal anyway.

The speakers I bought measure 6.5" but the mounting points have a smaller radius meaning the speaker almost falls through the hole in the door where the previous sat. Essentially the old speakers which also measure 6.5" have a plastic frame which is larger than the speakers I have bought so I have no way to mount the new ones.

You can probably snip off the plastic frame and attach to the new speakers with a hot glue gun (If you have one).

It's a known fix for doing the dash speakers in Porsche Boxsters - proper adaptor brackets are stupid money.

The old speakers and their frame is one plastic mould, they don't separate. The brackets I linked are £9, probably better off just getting those if that's the only other option.

I hadn't checked the link and seen the price - I'd definitely just buy those!

Aftermarket speakers are rarely a drop in replacement these days due to the complex door and dash mouldings etc.

If you find someone wrecking/breaking a Vectra, the original speakers are totally awesome and most likely very cheap over there, plus they have the same plug/connection as the Punto, no need for modifications, just drill the rivets out, put the vec speakers where the Punto ones go, plug them in, screw them in with some 16mm sds/tech screws - 3 is enough, door card back on, and blast away anyone who ticks you off,

Yes I have done this, and I am breaking vectra's

Cheers

If you're not wanting to save the old speakers, you can cut off the basket and tear off the cone. Clip the wires as long as possible, and you'll be able to use them for connection. This won't suite all size speakers though. I tried this first but was out by a few mil. In the end I just used a jigsaw to cut 18mm ply and made my own. Very solid end result.
