Technical Weird noise when I turn steering wheel left or right

Try uploading it to Youtube please, I get a blank screen in both Firefox and Chrome when trying to view your clip.

Couldn't access your video, but I have this trouble sometimes. It occurs when I haven't used the car for a while . It appears to be corrosion on the rim of the front brake discs catching on the brake screens , but it wears off after using the car for a while. Depends on the milage of course, could be something more serious with CV joints.

as nobody has seen / heard..

another common issue is with the bearings at the top of the front suspension

they get NotchY , and the spring moves ( rotates) in jerks..

Hi varesecrazy,

Thank you for your comment.

I made the trip to the Fiat dealer in Melbourne today, they checked the problem and his diagnosys nearly matches yours.

Front Struts and Top strut hats noisy

Recommendation:
Replace front struts and top hats $1320 AUD fitted
Or just to replace the tops hats, strut bearing $800 AUD fitted

RIP OFF!

In Australia they charge like a wounded bull.

Hi Charlie,

I am very good in IT, but I do not think I am up to doing this job, I lack the skills.

To get to the removing the struts I have to remove some sort of cover under the bonnet.

Look at the images:

Anyway something bizarre happened today. I went for a drive to the local bottle shop to buy some drinks for new year's eve and I could not hear the rubbing noise when I was turning my steering wheel, it was not very pronounced.

Yesterday it was very loud. The only difference is that yesterday was very hot, but today is rather cool. Does temperature affect this?

Do you have an explanation for it?

Thanks

Happy 2017.

Hi,
and I suspect its midnight in oz now.. so happy new year

temp changes - quite possibly.. the bearings sit in SOME grease, and actually taking apart and regreasing can work..I've done it on my cars before now..,

maybe really HOT got the grease moving .. and it' now quieter..

Hi,
Yes the scuttle trim has to come off. You need to pull of the rubber sealing strips and pull out the plastic pins.

Robert G8RPI.

The knocking noise driving straight on a rough road is probably from drop links or the steering rack.

For the last 3 days the noise has disappeared, it is very bizarre.

I cannot hear the knocking and the rubbing noise when steering left or right?

What is happening?

I cannot explain this.

Regards
