Hi...

So i have kind of a big/pass in the ass problem. So here goes...

It started around 2 weeks ago, the passenger side window in my car would no longer work at all, so it was stuck up.
about a week ago my drivers side window started doing the same (intermittently) but the weird thing was that i could get it to work by opening the door slightly and then pushing the button.
Then a few days later the passenger side window started working again, for like an hour.... and then broke again so now i have a passenger window that is 3 quarters of the way up and will not go up any further :(

I have checked the fuses and the one for the drivers side was blown, so i changed that (no difference) they still will not budge at all!

I took the plastics off the inside of the door, but im none the wiser because i couldnt really see much as there was a white sheet covering everything in the door along with a metal panel.

I really am a novice when it comes to cars so i really dont know what to do/try next... has anyone else had/solved this problem, or is there anyone who can suggest anything that may help?

Even if i could just get the window to go up until i have got the cash to get someone to have a look at it.

Thanks in advance!!

Cut the rubber gromit between door and the body of the car. You'll probably find a lot of wires sliced in half, so get the soldering iron out and resolder the wires back together. Maybe get some extra cable from maplins, so you've got extra to play with.

On the winder motor will probably only be 2 wires.
Using a few croc clips and a few lengths of wire.
remove the multi plug from the motor, and put a live wire to one terminal while an earth to the other.
If the motor goes down, swap them around, if it goes up then thats the security issue sorted.

I too would be tempted to check the wiring on the inside of the rubber boot.

Thanks for the advice both.. i will defo cut the gromit and check the wiring when i get home from work tonight!

Is it safe to be cutting the rubber though? what will i use to seal it back up?

Also could bad wiring in the driver side door cause the passenger window to also stop working?

Thanks guys!

Id say considering the drivers side door has switches for both side (IIRC) then a fault or broken wire on the drivers side could potentially affect the passenger side. It's a feasible scenario.
A blown fuse could also suggest a short somewhere, or a completely seized motor.

Rather than cutting the boot, maybe there's enough movement in it to compress it and allowing to peek inside, from one side and then the other.

It it does turn out to be a bust wire, then removing the loom from the door is probably the sensible option if you wish to attempt a decent repair.

So i finally got round' to looking at the wires inside the loom... and ya'll were right the 3 wires had completely snapped in half (hence there being no electric)!

I will attempt to solder on the weekend, ive had to cut the rubber around the wires to get access to them, so now they are showing and have no rubber protection around them.

Anybody got any suggestions as to what i can use to cover up the wires, anything similar to the rubber tubing that was already around it as standard?

Thanks :)

Have a look at a local scrap yard and see if there are any Fiats there.....just take as many of the rubber door grommets as you can and try and fit one that's suitable. I ended up with a Ford fiesta one that I super glued to the door and the frame. Needs to be big enough to allow the door to open and close. Or see how much a brand new one if from Fiat. I also tried a piece of inner tube from a bicycle tyre but could not get it to stay put.
