Hi!
i'm all new to this and this is my first car,
I've got a fiat grande punto 1.2 active 56 plate

I'd really appreciate help and in not-so technical speak!
Basically i was setting of to work the other day and noticed my blower heaters weren't working on settings 1-3 but worked on 4.
And i've no idea why as it was working fine the day before, Any suggestions?

Thanks

Beth :)

Hi Beth welcome to the forum....

i will try and keep this as simple as possible...

The Fans speed is controlled by a resistor pack (think of a house light dimmer switch) but its fixed with 4 settings) on number 4 it bypasses the dimmer and works like a normal light switch (full power)

its either the wiring to the resistor or the resistor itself.... see here its hidden in the passenger footwell sort of up under the glove box...

I had a similar problem with my altea. It turned out it was the resistor, however it seemed to have been damaged by the fan heater motor which was on its way out. I assume perhaps the motor was drawing more current and putting strain on the resistor?

Daughters fan stopped today

Is it possible to check the wiring/resister pack with a multimeter ?

How difficult is the resister pack to change and are they expensive ?

Mine was only working on setting 4, I changed the resistor which works fine but only on settings 2,3 and 4 if I put it on setting one you can start smelling the wires which connect the resistor burning, I think the fan motor is starting to seize up, so you could have two problems.

Just wanted to say a big thank you for the FAQ on the heater, checked the wiring and also the fan motor both OK, found the resistor had gone, replaced at a cost of £5.33 and all working now (y)

I wouldn't have even known where to start without this forum :worship:
