Hi all,

Yesterday i topped the car with coolant to MAX since it was nearly empty. Today i noticed that the reservoir is empty again :( the leaking only starts when the engine is on. I also noticed coolant underneath the 4th spark-plug, but cannot see exactly from where the leak is coming from. Attached are photos of the coolant found underneath the spark-plug.

Does anyone know what to do ? is it safe to drive if it is not being over-heating? and will that liquid that you mix with the coolant to seal the cracks work?

Thanks in advance.

Hi again,

I started the car again to try and see where the leak is coming from. I noticed that the pipe underneath the ECU is loose (please see video). Is it normal for this pipe to be loose like that?

VIDEO: http://youtu.be/ZEtj7Pdj_es

Please HELP.

Another question; is there a warning light on the dash that indicates low coolant level? if yes, why it is not indicating while the reservoir is empty?

PLEASE HELP!!

Hi,

Today i found out that the coolant flange thread is cracked :S Tomorrow i will buy a new one and replace it.

Now my BIG PROBLEM is that i think the coolant was low (with reservoir empty) for a while till i noticed during a routine check. No warning lights where displayed and the temperature gauge didn't show any signs of over-heating.
My mechanic told me that no warnings will show when the coolant is empty?? is this true? can this result in damage to the engine?? :/

PLEASE HELP and sorry for my poor English.

You know I already answered this! Post 4

No light or warning for low level,

Only warning when engine temp is too high.

What's coolant flange?

Okok. What I'm trying to say is; can any damage be done to the engine if the car does not not overheat but having low/empty coolant??

What's coolant flange?

Its something similar to this:http://i00.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/338234504/aluminum_coolant_thermostat_for_FIAT.jpg
Where the pipes are connected to the engine block.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes damage can be done

That's not a nice thing to hear :S

What flange is this thats cracked?

It's not actually the flange that is cracked. Its the plastic adapter, but since the threaded part is broken inside i am going to buy the flange. Attached are the photos of the actual thermostat housing/ flange.

Thanks.

Thanks for your replies.

I have replaced the thermostat housing/flange and went round the block to see if the leak problem is solved. But it seems I'm having bad luck with this car :S now for some reason, the bonnet wont open :/ Does anyone know how can i open it to see if the coolant reservoir is still full ??? and i also noticed that the bolt that holds the airbox is turning loose (damaged thread on block). What can i do to solve this? (apart from doing a new thread, if possible)

PLEASE HELPPPP

And again, sorry for my poor english.

any resistance on the handle when you pull it to open the bonnet?

can you pull the top grill out and see what is going on?

the air box screw is into a fairly thick bit of casting personaly i would drill it out with the correct size drill bit to clean and make the hole large enough for a plug tap http://www.tooled-up.com/Product.asp?PID=35634 just deep enough to secure the air boxt with the next size up bolt

think you will be looking at a M8 bolt with a 6.8mm drill bit to pilot ((DO NOT DRILL TOO DEEP OR YOU WILL END UP IN THE ENGINE)

No, and i cannot hear any moving parts at the locking mechanism. I think the cable somehow snapped :/

Is there access to the cable from there? will i be able to open it if i remove the grill? if not, that would be the last solution cause i found it difficult to clip it back in and had to remove the lower grill as well which took me quite a long time to do (when i sprayed the grill).

The problem is that I have already drilled an M8 thread because it was loose. Now the same thing happened, that's why it said "apart from doing a new thread, if possible". I think am using a lot of force to tighten the bolts...

Thanks for the reply.
