yeah at least we dont bump park in this country, has anyone ever been to Rome... wow! :|

well....

I have talked to the garage that sold it to me, they are willing to vouch for me as unlikely to be a thrasher lol, they have talked to the garage that has it at the moment and are swapping documents on it.. if it wasn't stripped they would have gone to get it.

They gave me fiat customer services number, and I have rung them- my information will be passed on to head office, who will get in touch with me, and the garages, within 48 hours.

So, things moving on, and we shall see what happens next!

Thanks for your input everyone - I will be more aware about ex rentals now but obviously didn't have a clue.

What revs do you rev it to at the max? Its like I havent been past 5600rpm.

Cos the 1.2 doesn't have a redline so try to use that as a get-out.

How ironic
A person who has admitted to always thrashing rental cars and deliberately misusing someone elses property is suggesting that all the problems THEY CAUSE are down to the manufacturer and dealer....:D.

Why you always have to attack other users is beyond me. There are many counter arguments to that, but i will not be lowering myself to that level.

Meeps

Glad to hear things are moving forward, the action you are taking sound a long the right lines, its good that the garage aree admitting some sort of responability. Lets hope fiat see your side :)

On a side note, someone said that the computer holds top speed data! I did about 10 miles at, lets say 'Quite Fast' (i dont want incriminate myself too much). If i have a similar issue to meeps, will fiat refuse to pay for repairs. If so, (similar argument) why would the not restrict they speed if high speed damges the car?

Hi Meeps,

sorry did not mean to be flippant on my previous post. I nearly bought an ex hire car years ago but pulled out after a chat with a mate.

T will remember the car hire depot in Kilmarnock at the time, strange guys who wore stetsons and spurs:devil:

Western road?

To be honest hire/lease cars are normally ok as they are regulary serviced & any faults sorted straight away as they are obviously for public use. I would buy a hire/lease car aslong as I got it cheaper than dealer price.

What goes around comes around;)

No T guys am talking about were round the corner from the hunting lodge. Not there now but they had offices in East Kilbride, Irvine too me thinks.

This was one of the only times I was in Killie but had all my jabs beforehand :D

Best of luck, meeps(y)

had one call from h.o and waiting for them to get back to me again, the garage that sold it to me said they have had a couple of calls about it.....

only been 2 weeks tomorrow.....c'mon fiat!!

well here is the very latest for you-

lady from fiat rang just now and said the max they can offer is £500 towards it. she held very firm when I said that was disappointing, and asked if there was anything more they could do, or if I could take it further. she has agreed I can try asking the garage that sold it to me to contribute as well. the garage that has it now are also trying to bring prices down- don't know if me going a big wobbly helped or if its just the standard 'talking the talk' to make me feel better....

The problem is very well known to Fiat Italy. I have the same fault.

It is the passenger side driveshaft. You only experience the noise when you carry a passenger & have to take a sharp right- hand turning. It sounds like the suspension creaking but it's a noise from the driveshaft/gearbox.....

This is one of the many reasons that Fiat have discontinued the GPS 1.9.....

Maybe someone can enlighten us 1.9 owners on this one? First I've heard of it...

yipes you've lost me there camelot, I have a 1.2 punto dynamic.

a friend that works at jaguar has suggested I ask these questions...

Why is the engine revolution connected to the failure of the gearbox. All new engines are fitted with a rev limiter to stop any damage occurring to the engine and not the gearbox.

- How can the vehicle be over revved when it is fitted with this limiter. What is the proximate cause and effect of this justification for declining under warranty.

- Nowhere in the handbook does it state that the engine has not to be taken above a specific rev range or damage will be caused to the gearbox.

- The fact that the gearbox failed at such a low mileage clearly indicates a manufacturing concern. If it cannot handle the power output of the engine (to which it is tested), then the gearbox will fail regardless of driving style and therefore, is clearly not fit for purpose.

what do you reckon??

I can believe there may be a design problem, but I cant believe that Fiat cannot come up with a solution to resolve it and are withdrawing the 1.9 as a result. What is more likely is that they want to use all the 1.9s they make in other models.

Thats a very generous offer from Fiat, I suggest you take it. They will have been in this postion 1000s of times before and will know exactly where their legal obligations start and finish and are unlikely to budge.

It would seem that the garage sold you a used car that on the face of it was defective and therefore liability rests with them, this shouldnt be difficult to prove if it was overreved before you bought it. Hire a good solicitor and go after them for the remaning costs of the repair.
