Adz182 was it? Really, really tidy ... I want a Cinq for my collection now :(

yup, thats the very one :) , honestly, its hard to believe the cinq and sei are really the same car underneath! the cinq is so raw compared to the sei... its a totaly different animal tbh

Looks well smart, great collection of mods as well (y)
Ta, you should see how much it stands out, all the cars near me are black corsas, silver mondeos, grey scenics, black puntos and then a bright red cinq with a bodylength stripe, lol, couldnt be much more conspicuous tbh :D

Looks like a cracking example of a well modded Cinq. Has it beened RRed? I'm assuming with those mods it's pretty close to 80bhp?

Doesnt seem to have been rr'ed, shame the rr was postponed this month! ;) i'd say 80bhp might not be too far off tbh :) when the revs pick up it feels just short of the hgt pace wise, so with the weight difference in mind id guess its pushing about 75bhp give or take a couple of bhp, cam, manifold and remap, it will put about 85 i would guess :) , so fairly highly tuned over the 54bhp original (y)

the problems are all becoming clear now!!! ;)

Gearbox off tomorrow if the weathers good, clutch quadrant is fractured, cable L end is showing signs of strain and the clutch is slipping slightly uphill.

The weight of the pedal tells me along with all the many other little signs the clutch and the bearings are close to shot. got a new clutch ready to go in, just got to get the hands dirty and fit it ;)

Whats more concerning is the developing of a very light tappety noise under power from the top end over the past 3 days or so. Checked oil levels and it was a fraction lower than i'd like, (strange seeing as the oil was just replaced along with the head gasket done just before i got it and there is no signs of any leaks) so topped that up to be sure, but no better. took of timing belt guard and ran it, and it looks like there is a very slight uneven rotation from the camshaft, so im guessing there may be the need for either a new tensioner or cam in the not to distant future :( , i'll keep my eye on it for now.

Also there is slight movement in the steering wheel that shouldnt be there, it can be shaken up and down, side to side by about 1mm ,its tiny, but shouldnt be there!!, the wheel is attatched to the boss perfectly, but it looks like the boss is moving on column hub. will investigate that further this week but id guess worn column nut or column support bolts strained. it just passed the mot easily 3 weeks ago, so surely that should have been picked up?

That along with a new battery last week after the old one gave up in the cold weather forcing me to use an engine starter, which then also gave up in a car park have sealed my return to cinq ownership!!! ;)

on the subject of mot's how the hell is this classed as an adisory?- car is fitted with lowered suspension and aftermarket wheels, but all appears to be correct. eh??????? whats that advising me of? lol

quite a read that, and looking like a lot of work... good luck buddy

sounds similar spec to mine bar from the rear disc and the 268 cam :D ..

Anyway got a picture of the rear ARB? sure just not a rear brace?

And how much was it ??

Ming

betcha mines is probably lower though ;) lol, mate used to run classic minis says he's never been so low in a car!

nope its defo a rear arb, i'll get some pics when im doing the clutch tomoz and its up in the air, gives me more room underneath to take pics (y)

oh and the price... technically free as i took it as a part ex for the punto ;) lol.

With refunds from insurance, money i got in the part ex set off against how much i originally paid for the punto..... lets just say if i was to sell the cinq even tomorrow in its current condition, i would make a very healthy profit ;)

anyone any good with ice installs?, i've done car electrics before, (tho not much in the way of ice) this was on the cinq when i got it and im trying to sort it out but im totaly bamboozled at this one.

ive got 4 speakers, the front 2 appear to run straight off the stereo, which is also linked to an amp. The back 2 seem to run off this... only the back 2 arent workin at all. The amp is wired up correctly, getting power, speakers are wired up right from what i can see, but theres no sound. it looks like the old sub tbh has been badly butchered out of the system as i had to tidy it all up to stop wires shorting in the boot!!!

just wondering how common it is for rear speaker to be used purely as bass carrying speakers? thats the only way i can see it would be wired up like this.

i might just rip the whole thing out tbh, i only have it on occasionaly ;)

amp could be blown, or speakers could be fooked, (obvious i know lol) try another amp in place and again with other speakers, other than that its the wiring........

sod it, lol, i might just rip it all out then ;) i think the speakers are fine, they are pretty new looking and a good quality make, id probably lean towards an internal amp issue, but i dont like how the whole setup is wired up tbh. so i couldnt rule out a wiring issue thats unseen.

i used to play about with car electrics at a local backstreet garage a few years ago, and even amongst that lot of cowboys if anything was wired up like this, they would be sacked on the spot.

Shoddy doesnt even begin to describe it.

I'll have one more play with the setup tomorrow morning, if its still dead, i'll rip it out and wire the setup right like i had in my old cinq.

oh, and on another note, the car is currently in bits, clutch job will be completed tomorrow as the parts arrived at tea time today :)

Then its off to Stirling!!!!! :woot:

i could have a look at the cinqs ice install for you if you want i had a pretty beefy one in the brava when i had it

oh and do you have a fuse in the bonnet cause ive got something a little special to go in there instead if you want it ;) ill hopefully be receiving my exhaust system today so ill be out at the car mostly just pop past and give a toot :) im in bed till 12pm though :D

Cheers, i may well take you up on that offer :D , i dont currently have the car though ;) , its in a workshop getting the clutch finished (going to be touch and go for Stirling! :eek :) , but maybe next week sometime?,

no fuses for the system under the bonnet, just a load of haphazard wiring/amps and speakers that dont do alot except for shorting some wires against the rear seatback

Btw, i was going to ask if the astra had a new exhaust before i saw this post, lol, you drove past me twice yesterday and i thought it was sounding really good! :D , its also looking ace actuallY!!!!!! :D

well plenty o cleaning stuff here if you want to borrow any :)

and as for the fuse thing i have a spare 200 amp ish circuit breaker for installs lying around somewhere which is much better than the inline fuses as you just press a button to disconnect the flow of power to the amp :) so much simpler

and yeah fitted the exhaust yesterday afternoon and its getting insanley loud now :) dont know if i will be able to take it much more haha :) i got a full race system with no silencers just one big pipe :D ill post a quick vid of the phone for ya although the mic is dying in the phone i think its getting a bit hissy may jhust need a clean though :D

oh, forgot all about that!!!!!, I think it was marty who had a look at it at the meet, and it is defo cinq rear suspension with an arb :D

i'll go take a pic and be back later :)
