Does anyone know if i can find the firewall/proxy address that is stopping me download in work?

We are supposed to have a 24mb connection to the tinterweb, but is useless to me because i can't download anything...lol

It might be a longshot, but as i am inside the firewall i thought i may have a chance of finding it out.

Open a dos box (Start-Run-"cmd") and type:
tracert www.msn.com

Once you have strange addresses/IP's coming up hit Ctrl-C to cancel the trace. The last IP address you see in the same format as yours* will probably be the firewall.

Not a lot you can do to get round a hardware firewall though if that's what you're using. But it may not be the firewall restricting you, it could be a server either inside or outside.

*If you need to know yours type "ipconfig"

This is what i get...

corus group

nice to see old britsh steel working hard as ever!!

you won't get round your firewall if it is set to block ports used by peer 2 peer applications

Re: corus group

Yep, old British Steel...working as hard as i ever have :)

Not a chance then?

Any other ways to download from where i am?

Any links?

I just wanted to make use of the 250-300kbs download rate we usually get...;)

Re: corus group

Just found this, do think it would work?

Hopster

What Hopster does is to act as an anonymous proxy server between you and other computers. Hopster lets people bypass censoring firewalls to chat with friends using MSN, AIM, Yahoo, and it allows anonymous downloads from Kazaa, iMesh, Grokster, WinMX and many other P2P tools.

Hopster autoconfigures itself for most P2P clients and instant messengers and you need not take any extra steps to make it work right away.

The problem is...the page i need to download it from has been blocked, by our IT security...lol

Re: corus group

Didn't notice the speed restrictor...:(

It doesn't work with the program i was using, and i cannot download kazaa :(

But i can use MSN messenger, so thats a start :)

Anyone want to do me a favour and host Kazaa or Kazaa lite?

Re: corus group

Re: corus group

That's a very strange IP and subnet you've got there on the Internal Network card Daz.

I'm glad I'm not the IT bloke at your place.

lol.

Re: corus group

You are mate??

Well I never! lol !

Basically I'm an IT guy for a Group of companies - 3 to be exact, which are all on different subnets. (obviously prevents a lot like virus's from spreading across them)

When the traffic comes in, it's filtered automatically by the hardware router, and then passes through a gateway which has winproxy installed on it, delivering to either network.

The mailsweeper again, has two network cards in it, pushing the mail either way to one of the two different networks (The other network is completely separate up the top of the yard. So yes, I have to walk up there when things go wrong, but touch wood, generally dont!)

I'll do a digram if you like (if interested! Not trying to offend mate, u know me, lol) just for your own curiosity.

We here, only use SL Mail, Winproxy (X2) and MAILsweeper, with a couple of other programs here n there like MS Exchange (Not nice!).

Out of my total curiosity, why on earth do you have such a complicated subnet? hehe.

How many users as well are there on your network?

Ta.
