Hello! I´m looking to throw out my 2000y 2.8i.d.TD engine from motorhome and install a newer engine, preferably a 150-160-180 Multijet. Does anyone know if the engine and gearbox mounts fit 1:1?

Not possible
The more modern engine runs off a canbus system a so would require the entire wiring system from the newer van installing along with associated ECUs and dashboard clocks it would be cheeper to sell your current van and get a newer one
You'd probably be talking 50+ hours of work to strip everything out to fit the new wiring loom newer lights airbag and body computer ECUs .ect

Thank you for thw reply. Complete wiring and other things is not a problem if the engine mounts are the same. It is a 3 axle, 8.1m long vehicle and this kind of MH are hard to come by. Especially if the "home" part is in excellent condition.

I don't know if the mounts etc. are identical, but maybe a 2.8jtd will be better, and is non canbus too. So wiring may be a little easier if so?

A 2.8 jtd in good condition is a far better bet than the high revving gutless modern engines with very little torque unless you rev the nuts off them .

Still miss my old 2.8jtd in my old ducato , pulled like a train, no rowing the gear lever and throttle like the newer engines..!!!

I cannot give a definitive answer, and there are so many variables, that this thread brings to mind lines of the the Johnny Cash song, "I stole it one piece at a time"

The transmission was a '53
And the motor was a '73
And when we offered it up, the holes were all gone.

I think that the above is a good suggestion because the 2.8jtd is derived from the 2.8idTD, so there is a good possibility of a fit.

However, I surmise that the OP is interested in the higher torque offered by the later engines, with the 180 offering 400 Nm at only 1400 rpm.

The later engines are developed from the 2.3jtd, from which was available as an option on x244, and earlier Ducatos, so some possibility there.

It seems to me that there are at least three factors to consider for the mechanical fitment. These are the location of the mounting holes in the engine block, the antivibration mountings, and the mounting points on the base vehicle.

Have any of these changed over time, particularly on vehicles manufactured from 2006 onwards?

If the design has changed, could a 180 engine be made to fit by using 2.3jtd mountings?

Would the drive shafts line up with the wheels, at an acceptable angle?

Unless theres a major problem or you need to change for LEZ or something I would stick with what you have they are incredibly reliable bar the occasional bosch immobiliser issue which can be bypassed a hundred times more simpler than the modern ones.you can always turn up the boost and smoke screw if you are looking for more power.
