hi,

i recently was walking around a batch of 2nd hand UPS vans, all from 2015 and between 100k-200k km milage. Besides the usual dents and bumps i saw that all buses had the same damage on the left rear door. I couldnt find anything on the forum, therefor this post.

i understand these doors have been used a lot as a delivery van. Some have been fixed from the inside but it looks like they cracked again. Is this a known weakness of these high rear doors? Can this be fixed by doing some plate repair work or will it always be a weak part?

The rear doors are a weak spot , they tear at the hinges because there is no reinforcing where the hinge is fixed [ 2014 on models have additional steel strip inside the door ], beware of builders vans with rear ladder access as these suffer badly with ripped and dropped doors.

Plenty of brand new doors on ebay from takeoffs by Harrisons at very good prices , they also have lots of different items from there motorhome conversions.

Looks like they had those repairs done by "spit " the welder, the high damage looks like a bodge job with the shelf installation and because the doors are so flexible when they are slammed hard they hit the shelving ...wot no paint ...!!!

the hinge side looks ok for one of the vans(not the one on the last picture ;)). I am just wondering if it can be repaired easily by a body shop or that a new door is required. Could you give me a link to that webshop in ebay, cant find it myself.

yea, its quite a weld isn't it. Wondering if it still can be fixed and IF i buy a new door, it wont be there again in 2 months. I rekon those doors will not be used a lot anymore if i convert it to a campervan.

Should be easy to fix by a good welder cut damaged section out then add a new bit of metal in weld and grind back
You would need pair after however so a new door may work cheeper
Especially as the door looks out of shape
