As per the title, might be something or nothing to worry about.

Have had our manual 2008 3.0lt MH for two years now and now covered just 16000 miles. It was re-mapped by Quantum at around 14k miles and the EGR mapped out as well. No DPF on this model year, so Euro IV.

Ever since I first drove it even without the re-map, it's puffed out black smoke when changing up or pulling out of say a roundabout exit. Hard acceleration uphill or on the flat doesn't show any smoke, it's just when changing up, any gear. Same smoke issue exists with the remap.

However, if I make a conscious effort not to change up until at least 3k rpm, there's a lot less smoke, in fact hardly any. I've been told by those in the know (hmmmm), that the smoking is due to the turbo taking it's time to spool up. Fact or fiction ?? Fuel filter change made no difference, neither did a new air filter. Quantum even adjusted the injector dwell angle/timing slightly but again no difference so put it back to where it was.

Suffice to say that at nearly 5000kg all up, we get 20-24mpg over a variety of driving and any mpg that begins with a "2" is a bonus lol.

So should I look further or stop worry8ing and find some other problem to keep me occupied?
