Apologies if this has been covered before many times.

95% of the time the van starts fine. Recently when cold the van will fire but then kick into 'limp home' mode where the revs will rise very slowly even with foot flat to floor to a max of about 3000rpm. Loads of smoke and lumpy idle. Switching off and back on does not make a difference.

Engine will then right itself (either just by running or by re-starting) and rev cleanly.

Could it be the EGR valve sticking? If so where is it located (if anyone has a piccy that would be great).

PS put some fuel in recently and it guage has not moved. Very impressed.

Intermittent faults can drive you made can't they, have you had the vehicle on diagnostic check, dose it show any fault codes?

If not I would suspect a fuel blockage or maybe a electrical plug/connector fault but finding it would be a process of elimination.

Do a search for EGR Valve problems on this part of the forum, and you'll find plenty of threads on it, some which are similar to yours
