Technical Wiper problems

That's a relief eh Ozzie. :D :D :D

At least we're ahead of my mate's Kangoo and his Isusomethingorother japcrap - they both have the old traditional rag in the hand wiper system (y)

Incidently did you notice the indicators click in there somewhere too.... fancy a look!!! :D :D :D

Funny you should mention them because they are damn quiet! I suppose a little investigation and perhaps a relaocation or a louder clicker from another vehicle may be in order.... now where's my toolbox.... :p

FINALLY I got to the wipers. Guess what, the connections on the motor are bone dry. There is a 4 pin connection on the driver's side and three other connections - I assume these are internal feeds to the motor itself. These wouldn't come off easily so I left them be. Better than breaking it eh! So I'm still none the wiser. (n) The dashboard is next. I think there's a relay down around the switch under the steering column, so I'm going to drop the cover next week. I can definitely hear a click in there - and I know its a relay click. :D

Current theory is that the intermittant wipe is a relay unit with a bi-metal strip and its knackered and going faulty in the open position -hence the wipers stop working.... We may soon find out....

I also had problems with finding relay. To get to it you have to remove steering weel. Careful with the air bag! Then remove switches for wipers and on the back of the block there are two screws. Remove plastit cover and under it you'll find two relays (one large- twin relay and one small normal 5 pin). Problem is, that i couldnt buy only electronic board, but complete assembly.
I solved the problem with replacing twin relay with two normal, andI have put them under the dash board.
Gorazd
PS Sorry for mistakes

Hi Kavka

Nice one! I haven't gotton around to the big search for the relays yet! I've found a way to work the wipers without the problem - just don't use the intermittant "feature? " and put up with the noise of them on all the time.

How did you remove the steering wheel - the last wheel I removed was the one on my Alfasud one bolt and hey presto (y)

Thanks.

Ok lads finally wipers solved :D :D :D

I stripped out the panel above and below the steering wheel - there was no way I was attempting to take out the steering wheel that's a job for somebody else :p
I found the control panel for the wipers - its hidden under a plastic case which I couldn't open with out taking out the steering wheel, so I prised it open just enough to have a peek and sure enough there's at least one relay on a pcb. So in true Hank Hill fashion I gave it a good shot of WD40 (y) actually I couldn't find my switch / pcb cleaner :D so I lashed in lots of Hank's favourite and hey presto we're all working again, a lazy relay - just find the little fecker (y)

Thanks to everybody for all their help on this mission! (y)

To remove steering wheel you have two holes on the side of the whel, where you push some screw driver in end pres the spring to remove air bag. First you better diconect accu. Then disconect conectors for air bag and horn and you are ready to remove the wheel. Then you, remove the plastic covers (4 screws under the wheel and 2 for the top cover from under side).
To remove everithing you have to disconect all the conectors and loose one screw from under side. Thats about it.
With WD40 and contact spray you probably didn't solve anithing, becouse relays are completly closed.

...still working though (y)

( Maybe I just disturbed something  )

Ah feck it its still working though :D

Thanks for the advice on removing the wheel (y) I think you're braver than me!

So i,m not the only one with wonky wipers then !
Had another problem with wipers where the plastic snap cap on drivers side wiper linkage wore out and I was told I had to buy the complete wiper assembly, then someone on the parts desk sugested i try fitting a plastic cap from another fiat, I had to drill out arm slightly to take new cap but it only cost me about £2 a lot cheaper than a new assembly.
Dont know what car its from but its just a sinple snap cap.:)

Nice one Dobbie (y)

My passenger one did that two years ago. It just stopped working, the bush had completely worn out and the arm simply collapsed! :bang: My dealer said they could repair it under warranty ( damn right the wipers should last at least 20 years ). I found out after that to repair the faulty bush you can drill it out and put in a split pin, but if you're unlucky and the drill bit breaks you need to replace the whole assembly. (n) So I got a new assembly then (y) hopefully it won't happen again I'm hoping Fiat have re-inforced the bushes (y)

damn right the wipers should last at least 20 years

Not according to Fiat they are good for less than 2 years.

Mrs_G's mechanism failed (passenger side stopped working). Doblo was 23 months old. Fiat refused to fix under warranty  despite all their guff about 2 years unlimited mileage warranty:tosser:. I needed the vehicle back on the road so had to pay - Fiat will never sell me or Mrs_G another vehicle. Oh, and I never miss an opportunity to spread the word.

The Doblo may be one of the best small vans on the market but it isn't worth considering as a business tool if the manufacturer wont give sensible backup. The new VW caddy looks good, I just need to find someone with some 'real world' experience of it.

I totally agree with Niall.
The Doblo may be a fairly good vehicle when you buy it, but when you add up all the problems and faults you get with them and the rubbish service and bad attitude from a lot of dealers you have to ask yourself why you ever bought one.
I will never buy a fiat again. They may be cheap to buy but you pay dearly later. Volkswagen and Toyota for me next time.
I cant believe some of what I read on here with £200 ERG valves and £70 MAF sensors shot in less than 2 years, Suspension bushes shot after a few miles along with dodgy welds on exhausts and tyres only doing half the expected miles. Horrendous servicing costs from flash garages (which is what your really paying for).
:)

Ah now lads the vehicles are not too bad (y) its the ****ey aftersales that really puts the brand under pressure.

Poor Mrs G I empathise with her my wipers only lasted 2 years too good old Fiat they don't call them a ****ing Italian Attempt at Technology for nothing so its **** Italy After This!!

...still working!! (y)

Listen to Hank Hill - he knows a thing or two about WD40!! :D

I have the intermittant wipe stopping problem. Sometimes after that the wipers will not work at all. Took the column apart to check the switch and they started working. :) For a week or two
Will now delve deeper to the relay.
Thanks all.
