Hi,

It's oil change time...the price has shot up at the local dealer, a good reason to do it myself this time!

At the last oil change the dealer used Selenia WR PE ("Pure Energy") 5W-30.
The handbook says Selenia WR 5W-40.

The Selenia WR PE ("Pure Energy") 5W-30 is £41/5 litres.
The Selenia WR 5W-40 is £16/5 litres.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the 2 oils, apart from the viscosity. Is there a good reason to use the WR PE or would I be paying a lot more for no good reason?

Cheers

Ron

What engine is it? 1.3 multijet?

Also are you sure about those prices? As £16 seems far to cheep for 5 litres
2 litre maybe but not 5

Your right just had a look that's really cheep oil

That being said wr pure energy is a c2 low saps oil for dpf equipped engines your being a 2006 is unlikely to have one so you should have no problems with the older oil

Hi, thanks.

Unfortunately it does have a dpf, that's another story though, but the manual does say use the plain old wr. I've asked Petronas and Fiat hq the same question and I'm still waiting for answers from both. Why would local dealership use the costly pe version and not use what the manual recommends...strange?!

Im surprised a 06 has a dpf that being so I'd make sure you use the pure energy low saps version
I'm guessing your handbook is for the none dpf van dealer has used the correct oil for the van in this case

Hi,
why do you want to take the most expensive FIAT oil? There are oils with other specifications and similar quality. I personally usually take oil with the VW specification 507 00. I get a 5 liter can in a local Russian market here in Germany for about 18 €.
I haven't had any problems with this oil. It is no Longlife oil. You have to change it according to your van's messages or usual changing intervalls. My engine is the 120HP 1.9l JTD Multijet.
Good luck

Hi,

In the end I went for the WR "Pure Energy" (C2), I rang around a few Fiat garages and the consensus was to use this one as the car has a DPF, and if they did the oil change this is what they would put in.

The user manual might well say use the WR (B3/B4) but the manual mysteriously doesn't mention vehicles with DPFs. Strange....

The manual for later Doblos (albeit with different engines) where DPFs are mentioned quite a lot recommend the "Pure Energy" version.

Any rate, it's done now and the car still goes!!(y)

Cheers
