I think the cam belt has gone on my 1.9 turbo diesel, anyone know if this is likely to have caused major damage to valves on this model?

Although much depends on what was going on at the time.
for example, I was doing a ton down the A1 when my chain slipped 2 teeth on the cog - totally wrecked every valve, bent the stems with the valves wide open - also gouged huige pits in the piston crowns.
Conversely, I have seen a belt snap at idle & the engine stops instantly, damaging one valve - not even bending the stem!
 
I fear the worst as I was doing about 70 mph when it just died, Will go take head off it today and survay the 'mayhem'!
My last van, a Renault Kangoo destroyed itself when bottom pulley came loose and timing slipped, snapped every valve stem off!!

Is the belt more than 4 years old or done more than 70k miles?
 
Only done 67,000 miles but is nearly 7 yrs old. It was in garage few months ago for new clutch and flywheel and I asked them to do the cambelt but they were too busy at the time and I needed van for work so it didn't get done then, very expensive decision for me as it turned out!!!
I'm struggling to get all the bits off so I can remove head. Got exhaust free but where do you start with the inlet manifold?? Can you leave it on the head and unplug all the wires and pipes etc. Looks like a nightmare to get at all the nuts with head in-situ.
I have removed the caps to loosen cam and at least 3 or 4 followers are stuck down so I expect it will need a full set of valves if I ever get the head off it!
Doesn't seem to be a Haynes manual for this model, are there any good workshop manuals available for it?
Help needed!

I've done quite a few HGs over the years & wherever possible I've left the inlet manifold on - mainly because I've found it harder to remove them than pulling the leads/hoses etc.
If you do have the inlet off, make sure you remove all traces of gasket from both surfaces before reassembly (which can be a pig to do).
May be too late now but I would recommend taking some decent quality pics of where each lead & hose goes - especially ones that terminate out of sight. You might never need the pics but always useful.
As for workshop manuals, do a google search for eLearn doblo manual to get a downloadable copy (so I'm told).
