Hi,

My 2003 1.9 JTD ELX suffers from a vibration or rattle which is very annoying but I would like to know if it could be something potentially serious.

It is noticeable at tickover but it disappears above 1100 rpm.

Has anyone else got the same problem or is it a known problem?

I would be very grateful for any help or advice.

Cheers

I've got the same car. Can you be more specific about where it comes from and what exactly it sounds like. Is it from the auxiliary belts or inside the engine, or what? Sorry to sound obtuse but my car is running fine right now (touch wood) and apart from the usual Diesel clatter at idle it is sweet as a nut.

sounds like aux pulley to me, it fits over crank pulley and drives aux belt (alternater, power steering, air con if you have it) its made from two pieces of metal with rubber in between to keep noise low. but in time the rubber perishes and they rattle just at tickover. the last one i fitted cost £85 from main dealer, its very easy to fit (about 40 mins) or you could have it fitted at a garage so expect to pay £125 to £150 supplied and fitted , regards, geoff.

If it is the pulley it needs changing. Mine went bang with only a couple of week's squeaking as warning and they had to fit the lot, wheels and belt - under guarantee fortunately. Driving without power steering to get to the dealer was, er, interesting!

i was lucky then, i was going to leave it for a bit and try and find one on e-bay, but it got on my nerves and my mates kept saying "that sounds like the big ends to me"

This certainly sounds like it might be the problem. Following the posts I am going to take it into my local Desira service centre and let them have a listen. They have a very knowlegeable Doblo technician who I have seen in the past.

Thanks

Hi All

Just to close this one off - it was the auxiliary drive that was causing the problem. Took it in to Desira for a look and they did it there and then. New belt and pulley £135 - not cheap but good service. Runs very sweet now.
