I have been thinking about towing a boat or caravan up to about 1 tonne but perhaps a max of 750 kg would be wiser. Does anybody tow anything with their doblo? From my experience of driving with 3 passengers and luggage I am not sure it is up to it. Ok on the flat perhaps but hills look like a problem. Turbo lag is quite marked in my vehicle , not much power until it hits 2000 rpm. I can see the clutch burning out on the hill starts.

Any experience or thoughts to share?

Hello al68 u dont state which version you have! 70 or 85 hp I have the latter and i have towed folding caravans big trailers these motors will pull same as 1.9 version and they do it well. Just make sure you dont go over the max 1300kg if its 85 hp if its 70 hp i think its 1100 kg hope this helps

I'm sure I've seen another thread where someone said that their 1.3 multijet was great at towing. Should be just fine.

As mentioned, don't exceed the maximum towing limit for the model that you have. If you did then that might burn out the clutch!

Mine's the 1.9 105hp & it is a fantastic towcar.
I own the back end of a BT van which is quite heavy in its own right. Loaded with furniture, the dobbin was more than happy to drag it along at 60 in 5th - and just as happy to accellerate to 70 to overtake.
It was difficult remembering to keep the speed down.
In fact, I believe that the large box shape makes towing a caravan much easier as most of the wind is already being deflected up & around the van - which adds to the overall stability.
With the 1.3 I think you just need to match the weight of the van to the ability of the dobbin & make sure there'll be plenty of power in reserve.

Hi we have an 05 family 70 hp doblo and tow a caravan of 900kg with three children, the wife and me fully loaded and it tows very well even up hills, will happily sit at 50 ,60 mph and still pull 50 mph up hill.

Just a point to remember folks, even though the 1.3 and 1.9 multijets have varying bhp outputs 70/85 =1.3 and 105/120 =1.9 they all have the same max torque about 148lbs/ft !!

as torque is what is needed for towing or pulling all should be similar ability up to tow speed of 60mph ish only then will the real top end power of the larger engine show as the revs begin to rise.
