Hi all,
Recently got some new software and cable, after installing the software i went to use it but it gave me an error messing saying
"Could not open COM port1"

It has the option to change the port to Com Port 1 to 8

I cannot find any help on the web so far that helps me try to fix this issue... Hopefully some one here can help

I have no idea what a COM port is - New computer, Windows 7...
I used to have XP and was able to find info and sort the issue easily but this is a right pain with Windows 7

Once you've installed the correct drivers for you cable your PC will alocate it a com port. You can find out what com port it is using by opening Device Manager and selecting COM Ports. Hope that helps.

I managed to find some drivers FT.... something, though windows update - for what ever reason it couldn't find anything when i first tried.

So the device is now working.... sort of...

Plug it in - "interface not responding" the ELM plug jobby - On top of this my battery in the laptop died :bang:

Now charging but cable etc left in the car, anyways, i got 4 programs with the cable, using the "Scan Master ELM" it manages to connect to the" Ford Fiesta Zetec LX 1.25 W-Reg"

But gets no response from the ECU, connect was good, however it cannot get the protocols for this ecu, no response... Does this mean the ECU is Dead - Alot of work on the car be for i bought this stuff and ECU fault was at the top of the list for what's left, other than damaged valves... but it's a 2 day job to get to the valves

Or am i doing something wrong?
4 programs:
1: ScanMaster ELM - no response from ECU
2:Scantool.net v 3.3 - Interface not responding
3.OBD2spy - Not yet tried as battery died
4.Can't open on my computer as windows 7 not compatible

Elm 327 i think it was,
Tried it in our Mk2b Punto and it all works fine
I cannot get fiat ecu scan trail to work - going to be my fault i think (not knowing how to use it) but the software that came with the plug works with the fiat no problems.

Still not working with the Ford though Going to try looking ford different software on the web... IF anyone knows a good place to look please post it I'll start with Google i think
