Has anybody tried Windows 7 yet?

Vista went a bit fruity on me since I installed IE8 so when the Windows 7 beta goes public I'm going to give it a go on my PC just to see what it's like.

Just wondering if anyone has been naughty and has downloaded it from a torrent site and if so what do they think of it and do they have any tips and so on and so forth?

I suspect I'll be shelling out for a Windows 7 licence when it comes out :D
I wonder how much it will cost then. Windows Vista Ultimate retailed for $399 when it came out
People bitch about Apple's prices, but at least OS X is a more reasonable price.

Meh that's a bit of an urban myth. Sure you could go pay that much for it but you'd be a bit of a fool!

Who buys retail anyway? I bought a cheap legit retail copy of x64 Ultimate off ebay for less than that actually but if I hadn't found a cheap copy I'd have just bought OEM anyway. The wifes PC has OEM on it and for her there's no real benefit to buying a retail copy.

housemate is running it looks ok prefer it to vista appearnace wise, although i do like the sound of being able to pull windows out to different size by touch

PC Pro (i think!!) have running the beta version on a netbook, and for the first time it looks like you will be able to have a windows PC without having to massively upgrade your hardware.

I too have heard some good stuff about W7 too from reading PC Pro.

Well I've given up and have found a link to a lot of rapishare downloads. Currently got 29 100 meg downloads on the go!

I'm afraid I'm not a big fan of Windows 7. It is marginally punchier than Vista I will concede but the interface is a step backwards in terms of usability.

Just a wild guess but:

1. It'll take a memory upgrade to run
2. It'll need more space on your HDD
3. It'll be full of bugs
4. It'll have more methods to limit your software use/selection
5. It'll be expensive
6. It'll require new drivers/interface cards to be compatible
7. It'll be expensive
8. It'll be bloatware
9. It'll rip off some other OS features
10. Did I mention it'll be expensive?

Just a wild guess but:

1. It'll take a memory upgrade to run - Uses less RAM than Vista. RAM is cheap anyway
2. It'll need more space on your HDD - Hard drive space is cheap anyway
3. It'll be full of bugs - All beta sofware has bugs
4. It'll have more methods to limit your software use/selection - Huh?
5. It'll be expensive - Rubbish. Retail versions of XP were just as expensive as comparable retail versions of Vista
6. It'll require new drivers/interface cards to be compatible - New interface cards? huh? What are you smoking? Of course there will be new drivers......
7. It'll be expensive - See above
8. It'll be bloatware - You really haven't been following the development of Windows 7 have you?
9. It'll rip off some other OS features - So because someone else has a good feature so others shouldn't use it? How great would cars be if companies didn't copy the good bits from other cars?
10. Did I mention it'll be expensive? -Yes and you were wrong about that the first time you mentioned it!

See replies in your post.....
