It's an easy swap - the engines are from the same 'family', and the only real difference is the block being 10mm taller - you need an exhaust spacer, a custom system, or cut and weld a bit in the downpipe of the one you have got to clear the sump.

The engine mounting points are identical, inlet and exhaust manifolds, gearbox, clutch etc. are all the same. You need to swap some sensors over from the 1108 to the 1242, but they just bolt straight up. The cam belt cover needs trimming back a little to clear the expansion bottle too (5 mins with jnr hacksaw) The Punto 60 has a marginally bigger bore throttle body too, so it's worth getting one of them too while you're there (Punto 75 is mpi and not really an easy swap). After porting the throttle body a bit mine runs clean into the red in 5th.....

So your shopping list:
Punto 60 engine from L to V reg
Punto 60 throttle body
Appointment with Superchips to set it all up when you're done
Exhaust spacer / friendly welder / posh system
New cam belt, clutch and thermostat to be safe
Hoist, Haynes manual, and a good reserve of swearwords.

Got my engine for £150 from these blokes, but they were in the middle of a price war at the time...

Got the throttle body for £40 from a local scrapper. Was absolutely hacky and needed dismantling to clean though!

And my comp insurance, I've got covered for all mods for (are you ready for this......)

£187

So many people have asked - 'Are you a bit daft? swap the engine for an extra 6 bhp?' but what really makes the difference is the extra torque. 0-60 against a stopwatch, 9.5 secs (14 std) top whack - seen 117 (and gave up as it was in the red). Has to be driven to appreciate the difference, the 1242 is such a flexible engine.

Har Har! My insurance is £187 a year, comp, all in!
(The only advantage to being 32 :) )

Yeah - had 9.5 secs against a stopwatch to 60 and gave up at 6200 revs in 5th, seeing as though it's redlined at 6k...
Would go off the clock down hill prob'ly.

Throttle body - try the same breakers you get your engine from, might even come still attached!

Superchips, look for your local dealer on
http://www.superchips.co.uk

Spacer - make one from 10mm plate like I did (use gasket as a template)
tame welder - ring around fabrication shops in the yellow pages?

cam belt/clutch/'stat/manual - local car bits shop or Fiat

Hoist - hire one (cost me £20 for a day) but you won't need one if you're not doing it yourself

swearwords - you could always post a request for some :D

Labour - you're looking at about a day's work for a garage to swap an engine, so £200+ maybe?

im paying about £600 in my dad name and im currently 18. so if i were to get a punto engine in my car how much more u fink my insurance will go up?

to add a punto engine in, do i have to new stuff like new clutch, cam belt etc? coz it sound like a real hassle trying to get stuff out of my car and then new stuff back in!! couldnt ther b a possibly that my car might get fu** but i guess in the end if a job well dun then its worth it isnt it!? just that im little worry bout the fact the it might not go well! also that the fact my insurance gonna go up by alot and i cant afford that! if it wil go up by abit then tht ok.

If you get an engine from a scrap car, it's worth doing a new clutch and cam belt, they are really easy to change while your new engine is still on the floor. If they go pop when it's fitted, it's a lot more bother!

There's always a possibility that any job can go tits up, just don't take shortcuts and make sure you're working safe. Take your time too.

Insurance, ring around and ask for quotes. I had to change brokers when I fitted the 1242 as the old ones wouldn't cover me, although they had been good for other mods. Try something like Max Power for numbers.

Admiral wanted £400 from me (even without the 1242) which I thought was way too much, so I switched to HIC, who can be got on 08451 290290

We can supply a 1.2 engine from a
Punto 60 (R reg) for £200.00+VAT (three months guarantee).
Packaging and overnight carriage is £60.00+VAT (it has to go on a

Unfortunately we do not fit.

If you would like to order this engine etc please call us on 0121-643

thanx for ur advice pete,

stubbzie

oh i forgot to add sumfink! soz! in the last message i wrote, does tht 1.2 punto 60 engine for £200 included a throttle body aswell? or its separate? coz i noticed wen they sent me an email the subject of the email was punto 60 engine and throttle body so i thort it must have be included in with the 1.2 engine aswell.

The only people who can tell you that is them.
£200+vat + £60 shiping is gonna be £300 near enough, try ringing local ones to see how they compare.

The 1242 is an easy swap, 1.3 or 1.4's are gonna be big money to fit.
