Hey peeps! Long time no speak eh.......
Anyways hope you all ok! I still got my cinqy and I changed the coolant today, flushing all the crap out and putting new anti freeze and water in....

BUT

The first time i started the car after the renewal of coolant, the fan didnt cut in! I didnt realise because it was fine before I renewed the coolant...plus i was washing the car :)
When I did see the light on the dash telling me it was overheating, I switched it off pronto and popped the bonnet to find steam and no fan kicking in...
I loosened the header tank cap and it depressurized (I know you're not supposed to :p) AND the fan kicked in!
When I looked inside the header tank there was minimal coolant left....so I refilled it and started the car again. After 5 mins no fan but the air is blowing hot?
I drove it up the road to Tesco's once it cooled down and pumped tyres and came back, which is about 8-10 mins also and still no fan kicking in?
When I got home, I bleed the system while it was running and the water wasnt etremely hot?
Ive read the previous posts and I've checked the fan, it does work, but I thought I'd ask my fellow buddies here for there expert advice on this?
Am i being paranoid and not waiting long enough for the fan to kick in?

Sounds like you didn't bleed it the first time. I wouldn't expect the fan to kick in much this time of year. There is a known problem of the 899 water pump not moving enough water when idling. This means the water in the block gets hot, but does't reach the radiator. On the Cinqs with a guage you could see the temp rise, then a swift rev and the temp would drop to normal.

Everytime you switch the blower on with the heat switched on you are in effect adding another radiator fan to the system.

I don't think you need to panic.

Cheers

Doesnt appear to be anything to worry about, especially this time of year!

What Rallycinq was spot on about the temp gauge, they can climb very quickly and spike before settling down at optimum (in a sporting thats about 90C)

Keep us informed of how it is on a drive around. At most extereme I can sense a new water pump, so nothing too serious.

Thnx guys! I will keep an eye on my coolant levels over the next few days but I dont know what the temps are as I dont have a temp gauge on my cinq...

One more thing, really dont open the coolant again while it is hot. The pressure is the only thing that stops it boiling inside the system. Boiling water = steam = fooked cooling system.

I dont know......Mine has a pic of a car where the temp gauge is meant to be and it doesnt do anything?
Mine is a Cinq S though, maybe from SX onwards it has it? I know that I have a sensor in the engine for it.....
You reckon, if I get the sporting clocks, the temp gauge will work?
