Rather stupidly bought a Seicento citymatic (seeme a good idea at the time!).
3 months on it now wont go into gear when it starts clutch doesnt disengage. To begin with thought it was battery going as car was very sluggish to start then the gear selection problem so took car to local garage where i bought and fitted new battery but gear problem stil persisted car is now stuck at local garage!
Read the other threads on here about the problem and got rather scared how easy is the manual clutch conversion and would an independent garage be able to do it?
This is my first car and spent all my money on it. Its been a great car up till now.
Would like to hear from anyone who has been in this situation and what the best course of action is?

Thanks Matt925

hiya matt

am not very mechanicaly knowledgeable (steve is astonished by my lack of knowledge) with cars but when i got my 899 sx there was a problem with it changing gear.

and it turned out to be a small horse show type clip that held the clutch cable in so that you could select the gears. This may have nothing to do with it but its an idea. This is just a thought if it is the 899 engine then maybe the set up is the same as mine and this could be the problem.

i hope you get it sorted out soon

yours isnt a citymatic - they dont have a clutch

have never owned a citymatic but dad has had a hyundai semi auto, nothing but trouble, exaclty the same symtoms as you describe, cost him £700 to fix, 3 months later it went again

I had a Sei Citymatic - 1 year from new. Nary a problem - maybe you've just been unlucky.

you have been lucky

have read many posts on various forums regarding citymatics :( , i even remember reading a post saying fiat may offer you over the odds for it on p/ex cause they want them off the road
