Folks,

My alternator is cooking batteries, so I tried to take it off today...

All bolts came off except the lower one, its hitting the engine mount!!!

Duff design or what..

Do I have to support the engine weight and loosen the bolts holding the mount to the engine enough to remove the bolt??

Or - is there an easier way??

Bloodied hand, cold and fed up for the day!

Any advice would be appreciated soooo much!

16 mm bolt (across flats) -- should also take an 8mm allen key. But in my experience it always hits the mount (on the SPI Sei, too).

If you were planning to do it more than once, it'd be easy enough to make clearance with a die grinder (take it to the mount, not the bolt!), but.....................

removed a few alternators on sporting's, and the top bolt will come out with a bit of force, it is easier to put back in if you chop 5mm of the end of the bolt :)

Trolley jack under sump - take the strain, undo the engine mount fixings enough to pull it away from the engine and hey presto!

Cheers guys, did it last weekend.
