I've always had a clunk noise from the front OS area of my car - i blamed the ARB bushes, but looking today i think the engine mount is trashed. But i dont know what one looks like when its ok, never mind broken.

Is this dead?

Erm, on the gearbox mount that went on mine, the rubber was hanging out, this looks fine to me.

I too have a clunk but I've swung on the engine and it doesn't move at all !!

Try gently bouncing the suspension turrets at the front, the top shock absorber bearing can knock sometimes.........seems to be reasonably common as I had to strip down two legs in the breakers before I found a good one.

Hi,
On the top of the damper there's a triangle shaped plate with three studs poking out and a bearing in the middle where the shock bolts through, its these bearings that are on their way out on my cinq and making a clonk noise, so if the spax kit comes as built up struts, then it should come with a new bearing....

The springs and shox kits are just that, you need to swap over your old top mounts, bump stops and rubber bellows to assemble them. New top mounts ain't too expensive - seem to remember £25 a side.

i wonder if it is that on mine then. I'l give it a bounce later i think.

Jack it up and lift the wheel, you should be able to feel and see if the top mount is coming apart.

ive given it a good wobble and bounce - and it all looks and sounds ok. Ive not jacked the car - will do once im home this weekend. Could knackered arb bushes be the culprit. Looking under, mine are a bit fooked i think
